Newgrounds Founder Profiled

Posted on 30 November 2008 by Getmo Games

Online portal Newgrounds is a favorite of gamers as well as an occasional target of criticism over its hosting of controversial games.

The site, coincidentally, is located not far from the GamePolitics command bunker. GP's local rag, The Intelligencer, profiles Newgrounds founder Tom Fulp in today's edition.

Tom Fulp was a teenager “just goofing around” when he created the video game-sharing Web site that eventually would pay his bills. Newgrounds.com, which once operated out of basements and bedrooms, survived the bursting of the Internet bubble in the late '90s and has gone on to thrive in the new millennium...

A lifetime gamer, Fulp never has understood some people's disapproval of violent video games.

“The nicest people I've ever known have been gamers, and the most violent people have been more far removed from video games,” he said.

But there's more to Fulp than just Newgrounds. His game development company, The Behemoth, created Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers.
