Just a rumor right now, but there is a rumor going around right now that the 60gb Playstation 3 has been reduced only to get rid of the rest of the inventory for that version and that the 80gb version will take its place. The news originally came from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) president David Reeves, but Dave Karraker of Sony Computer Entertainment of America has stated that the news is incorrect. Sony also posted on their blog some "clarification", saying "We will have ample supplies of both models to meet the needs of consumers for the foreseeable future," but that doesn't really clarify things, does it.
Microsoft has announced a couple new games that will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade next week. On Wednesday, July 18, you will be able to download Bomberman Live for 800 Microsoft points. Actually it will be released on HD DVD, but when you think of HD DVD, you think of the 360 right? No? Whatever then. Anyway, Digital Leisure has announced that the classic Dragon's Lair game will be released on HD DVD on August 15th and will come with full HD special features such as interviews with the creators and a full length commentary of the game.
A representative from Sony has confirmed that a SixAxis rumble controller is on the way. No more details have been released though.
I know that Turok isn't everyones favorite game, but for some reason I have always been a fan of the series. I beat the N64 version so many times, I can't even count it. Anyway Propaganda Games has announced that the Next-Gen Turok will grace our gaming systems on February 5, 2008. Happy or not, Turok is making a return.
According to Konami, they have taken the Contra franchise and brought it back to old school. Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS is a 2d run and gun action title. Just like we remember it. They have brought back simple controls as well as the powerups that you can pick up along the way and each weapon can be leveled up once if you pick up two of the same powerups in a row. This game takes place 2 years after the Contra 3 story. There will also be ad-hoc 2 player mode. Keeping with the old ways of Contra this game will include the dreaded one shot, one kill gameplay. No release date has been announced yet but it is due out sometime this year.
2K SPorts has developed All-Pro Football 2k8, which is a top contender in the NFL Football genre. EA Sports bought the exclusive licenses to the intellectual properties of the NFL, so 2K Sports used NFL legends instead. They couldn't get players like Terry Bradshaw or Dion Sanders, but they got plenty of others, such as Warren Moon, OJ Simpson, John Elway, Emmit Smith, Dan Marino, Jerry Rice, and Flutie Flakes (you know what I mean, right)?
The game will feature full online functionality with leagues and tournaments and will offer tons of customization. You can customize everything from uniform colors and shoes to wristbands and team logos. Players on the sidelines will also be interactive. If you get too close, players will talk trash or try to hold you back. There will be a total of 11 legends on a team and the rest of the players will be generic, but the 2K Sports team was quick to point out that the generic players don't suck. They can also be great players, they just aren't as good as the legends are.
They have announced that a demo for the game will be available within the next few weeks, so keep an eye out. All-Pro Legends will be available for PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3.
I love that title. The only thing I don't like about it, is that it feels like it tries too hard to be funny. Anyway, I love this show and I'm sure to love the game. Check out some footage of the game below.
Microsoft has made available a demo for the upcoming Stuntman game on the Xbox 360. I remember the first game was extremely frustrating, and sadly, I never finished it. Anyway, download Stuntman Ignition from XBL right now.
Everbody loves Zelda games right? I do. Check out some footage from the upcoming Zelda: Phantom Hourglass game on the Nintendo DS.
Konami has announced the next Silent Hill game in the popular and very scary franchise. Silent Hill 5 will be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2008. There will be a new combat system that allows players to perform offensive and defensive maneuvers against enemies found within Silent Hill, and will include environmental puzzles in which you will have to pay attention to your surroundings. The game will not be developed at Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo like the series has in the past, but will instead be developed by a North American team, The Collective. Lets hope they keep the game going in the right direction. I want this one to be really scary.
So far the only online game for the Nintendo Wii is Pokemon, but there are soon to be a few more online titles. The first of the bunch comes from EA. Sony of course talked about the much anticipated Playstation Home service at their press conference today. They have listened to their testers and have added some new features to the service. One of them being mobile functionality. You can access Home from properly equipped phones which will allow you restricted access to the service but 3d capability will only be available on the PS3. They have also added the ability to launch any game (on disc or hard drive) from within the service. Playstation Home will be available sometime this Fall.
At Sony's press conference, they showed off some video of the upcoming FPS, Haze. Looked pretty damn good. They mentioned that Haze is a PS3 exclusive, but did not say if it was exclusive at launch or altogether. It would be nice if it were only for the PS3, but I'm assuming it is still only exclusive at launch.
Another title that Sony mentioned would be a PS3 exclusive is Unreal Tournament III. This game really looks great. They said that it would be exclusive "this year", so it could be coming to other platforms in the future. It will be available in November.
Sony has stated that Metal Gear Solid 4 is PS3 exclusive, but I'm still not sure if Konami is firm on that. Hideo Kojima talked about his game at the conference today and has stated that his role with the series has come to an end and MGS4 will be the final game of the franchise. The story of Snake will end and all mysteries of the story will be revealed. As everyone expected, a trailer was also shown. As Hideo made sure to announce, it shows real time footage running from the PS3. Check out the trailer below. The story looks as good as ever. There's even a little breakdance fighting at the end. It will be released worldwide early 2008. Hideo has also said that he will be showing off a demo next week in Tokyo, where more of the game can be seen.
Nintendo has announced a cool new accessory for the Nintendo Wii called the Wii Zapper. You attach the Wii Mote and the Nunchuck to the Wii Zapper in order for it to work. They have stated that they are expecting players to use it with the upcoming Resident Evil game Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and that other games being developed to use it is Ghost Squad from Sega and EA's always popular war game, Medal of Honor. They have also announced that they are creating their own game in-house that will come packaged with the Wii Zapper. The Wii Zapper will retail for $19.99.
Nintendo only let slip a few release dates for their upcoming games but the most notable would probably be Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy. The new Smash Bros. will be out on Dec. 3rd and Super Mario Galaxy will be available on Nov. 12th of this year. I really want Mario Galaxy.
Basically, Check Me Out will allow you to create Miis and have other creators check them out. There will also be contests and promotions for this.
Wii Fit is a new game coming for the Wii that does pretty much what you would think based on the title. It comes with a pad, called the Wii Balance Board, that you stand on as you play. It works by sensing pressure and weight distribution. From the video that Nintendo showed you can do many exercises such as doing pushups, balancing wieght, hula hooping, dancing, hitting a soccer ball with your head, yoga, and other stuff such as minigames like balancing a ball on moving platform like Marble Madness or Monkeyball. The game will feature more than 40 activities all together that teaches varying excercises such as yoga poses, muscle conditioning, etc. The Wii Balance Board will be wireless so that it can be used anywhere in the room. The game uses a body check function that will measure your body as you stand on it, not only for calibration but for measuring your body size and BMI, or Body Mass Index. As you play the game over time you can collect the data and create your own personal graphs to track your progress over several months as well as comparing the data to other people in the household.
Wii Ware is is a Nintendo Shop Channel that will be coming to the Wii that will allow independant developers a shot to showcase their games, despite not having a large budget. I was seriously hoping that Wii Ware would be available before the end of this year, but Reggie Fils-Aime has stated at Nintendos Press Conference that it will be out sometime next year. No date has been announced.
Reggie Fils-Aime has announced that Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii will be coming out in the first quarter of next year.
