God Of War: Chains of Olympus Photos

The God of War Development team has released some new screenshot for their upcoming game for the PSP. The first one here is some concept art. Click on the pictures to see them full size.

God of War: Chains of Olympus Concept Art

Justin Murray, the artist, describes it:

"I based this design on an olive tree because I thought it had an interesting texture that worked well with the character of my concept. Giving the tree a tumor-like surface and distorting its massive form made it appear even more like a petrified monster. The scarred ground surrounding the base of this monstrosity was designed to look like it had punched itself up from the depths of the Earth."

The next photo is a screenshot from the game.

Finally some playable stuff on the Playstation Network. You can download two new playable demos, which are Super Stardust HD and Dynasty Warriors: Gundam. PS3 Firmware Update Today

Look for a firmware update to hit your PS3 sometime today. The update, version 1.82 will give the Playstation 3 the ability to play ACV High Profile files, more commonly known as MPEG-4. Nothing else has been released about the update as of yet, if there will be more, anyway.

Super Swing Golf 2 For the Wii

Tecmo has announced that they will be bringing the sequel, Super Swing Golf 2, to the Nintendo Wii. It will feature more courses and costumes as well as new modes. One such mode is the tour mode, which will give the players the ability to acquire new items as they complete the game. It is scheduled for release in Japan during the holiday season, but a date has not yet been announced for North America.

WiiWare Coming To the Wii

WiiWare is like the Virtual Console, except it will be new games, instead of classics that everyone has already played a million times. The goal of the project is to give young, promising developers a chance to bring their games to the Wii, despite small budgets and other shortcomings. This is pretty damn cool in my opinion. Now we can start to see some "arcade" style games on the Wii, that are brand new. If you are wondering what I mean, I'm talking about games like Blast Factor or fLOW on the PS3, except these games can utilize the awesome Wiimote.

Create-a-Shooter for Wii

Majesco has announced that they have created a shoot-'em-up for the Nintendo Wii called Blast Works: Build, Fuse & Destroy. They cool thing about this is that you are able to create your own uniques levels, filled with your own unique ships and enemies. The game includes easy to use in-game editors that will allow to have an extreme amount of freedom of customization. There are also more than 15 missions included if you are too lazy to create your own.

New GTAIV Trailer

Today Rockstar Games will reveal their next Grand Theft Auto IV trailer titled "Looking for that special someone." Look for it.

Darkness Demo Coming Soon

For those of you who don't want to purchase The Darkness, for whatever crazy reason that might be, Starbreeze will be releasing a demo soon. The demo is expected sometime in early July, so look for it.

Warhawk Beta Extended

Were you one of the people who were accepted into the Warhawk Beta for the Playstation 3? If you were, you should be pleased to hear that the Beta test has been extended to July 2nd. If you weren't chosen for the Beta, this news should have no effect on you whatsoever.

Rainbow Six Vegas Map Pack for 360

You can now download a new map pack for Rainbow Six Vegas on Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft points. The pack contains five maps, three of which are brand new levels and the other two are revised versions. The revised levels are for Streets and the Rainbow Six 3 level, Presidio.

Hitman Movie Trailer

The trailer for the upcoming movie, Hitman, has found it's way to the internets. It doesn't provide much, but you might as well check it out anyway. In my opinion, from the trailer, it looks kind of cheaply made. We'll see though.

Pokemon the First Online Game for the Wii

Finally, Wii owners can play a game online. Too bad that game is Pokeman Battle Revolution, because I don't want it. You can compete against your friends now, after exchanging friend codes. At least we will start to see some more online stuff for the Wii now though, since Nintendo would not let anyone make an online game for their system before they did. Sounds like a whiny little brat to me.

June 26, 2007

New F.E.A.R Map Pack

You can now download a FREE map pack for F.E.A.R. on the Xbox Live Marketplace that brings you two new multiplayer modes, "Control" and "Conquer All." In the Control mode, you must capture areas of the map and keep them from being recaptures the enemy. In Conquer All mode, your team must kill as many of your enemies as you can. These modes work on all of the previous maps and will work on future maps as well. In addition to these new modes, you will also be able to host in a player match and can invite Friends to public slots and private slots. Blood splatter to enemy uniforms has also been added.

Wipeout HD on PS3 Coming Soon

Sony's Liverpool studio director Clemens Wangerin has confirmed that Wipeout HD will be coming to the Playstation 3 sometime soon. The game is expected to feature an online multiplayer mode and HD enabled tracks from Wipeout Pulse. You should see this game on the Playstation Network before the end of the year.

The Game I'm Buying Today

Have you seen multiplayer gameplay from the awesome looking game "The Darkness" yet? Well, check it out. Then go buy the game and I'll kick your ass in the very same mode you see below.

Virtual Console Gets 3 More

The virtual console has three more title that you can add to your library of classics.

China Warrior

China Warrior (TurboGrafx16, 600 Wii points) is a side scroller in which you play as a kung fu master named Wang in a quest to defeat the Dark Emperor. You must battle through four stages, each with it's own boss.

F-Zero X

F-Zero X (Nintendo 64, 1000 Wii points) is a racing game. The story behind that game is that many pilots were catastrophically injured in the Grand Prix and the race was discontinued. Then the competition came back in the future by the name of F-Zero X. Not that any of that matters though. You should know what the F-Zero series brings anyway, so if you like the other ones, you'll like this one.

Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting

Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting (Super NES, 800 Wii points) is obviously, a fighting game. If you don't know what Street Fighter is than you deserve a kick in the head. This version was the final release in the series which includes the eight original characters as well as the playable boss characters, and improved playing speed.

Xbox Live Arcade Gets Carcassonne

The new release for Xbox Live Arcade this week will be Sierra's Caracassonne, which you can download for 800 Microsoft points. This is a tile-laying game where you earn points by completing roads and structures and placing followers on them. Up to five players can play over Xbox Live. There are 72 tiles and an expansion pack that will add another 12 tiles to the game. There are also two more expansion packs scheduled to be released soon.

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

I love all of the games in the Zelda series and I really can't wait for Phantom Hourglass to come out. You can check out the video below to see some gameplay. The video doesn't show much except for Link picking everything he can up and throwing it, but just watching it makes you feel right at home.

First Multiplayer Video of Call of Duty 4

If you have been looking forward to the upcoming Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare game, here is some new video released to make the wait all the more painful. Check out some multiplayer gameplay of the game below.

380 Games for the PS3 by 2008

Everyone who owns a Playstation 3, or who has considered purchasing one, knows that there is an extreme shortage of games for the system. Well Sony is planning to change that. According to Sony president, Kaz Hirai, approximately 380 games will be released for the PS3 between now and the end of the 2007 fiscal year, which is March of 2008. This includes 180 downloadable Playstation Network titles and 200 boxed retail games. It's about freakin' time. Wait...I better not speak too soon.

Steam Makes Huge Updates

Steam is one of the largest and most popular downloadable games service right now with more than 13 million active users. If you are reading this, you are probably one of those numbers too. Well, If you go to the Steam homepage, you will notice that they are making some big changes to the service. Starting in July, you will be able to set up your own personal Steam pages and profiles, create and join groups, schedule games with friends, chat with groups, and more. These features can be used with all of the Steam games, no matter how new or old, and the service is free. Check it out.

God of War: Betrayal For Cell Phones

You may remember me mentioning that there would be a God of War cell phone coming soon, and that time has come. God of War: Betrayal is now available for download on most Verizon Wireless mobile phone, taking into account their compatibility of course. You can either pay $3.99 a month or a one-time fee of $7.99. I now wish I had a Verizon phone. Hopefully the game expands to a wider variety of cell phone users.

New Call of Duty 4 Footage

The scene is called "Bog Rescue" and it looks pretty good. The game looks fun. Most of this video is in night vision though.

Lost Planet Multiplayer Map Pack 3 Available

The new multiplayer map for Lost Planet is now available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace. There are three levels here which consist of "Lost Technology," "Ruins," and "Ice Drop." The coolest of which I think is Lost Technology since they go for a pixelated feel. You can download the map pack for 400 Microsoft points.

June 21, 2007

MotorStorm Update Available

The update for Motorstorm is now available for your multiplayer pleasure. The Time Attack mode will allow you to race against the clock in order to set your best time. You can compare this time to the top times on the leaderboards. You can also exchange ghost laps with other players so you can watch how good they really are.

Playstation Network Update

Today's PSN update included the Motorstorm Time Attack mode update and playable versions of the PSone games Hot Shots Golf 2 and Coolboarders. They both cost $5.99 each, which isn't bad at all. I played the hell out of these games when they were new, so I'm really not interested, but they were some good times. If you already bought the PSP-compatible versions of either of those titles, you don't have to pay again. You can just download the license file to enable PS3 play. Also included in the update is a trailer for The Heartbreak Kid, which you can download for free.

Nintendo Short Cuts Contest Winners Announced

The winners of the Nintendo Short Cuts contest have been announced. Jack Paccione, you lucky bastard. Good Vs. Wiivil, Koopa Force, and The Nintendo Office are all pretty good so you should check them out. You can still go to the website and vote on your favorites too.

Take Control of Dunder Mifflin

MumboJumbo has aquired the rights to the popular tv show "The Office" which airs on NBC. There aren't any details yet on how the game will play, but I don't think anyone should expect much. The game will be available for PC, Sony PSP, and the Nintendo DS.

Contra 4 on the DS

Konami has announced that they are bringing Contra 4 to the Nintendo DS. How cool will that be. Since just about everyone in the entire world is a Contra fan, this is some great news, isn't it? The game will be sequel to Contra III: The Alien Wars taking place two years after the events of that game. A release date has not been given but it is scheduled for release sometime this year.

Band of Bugs Hitting XBL Today

Today you can download Band of Bugs, which is a strategy game. It comes with a full level editor which will allow you to create new levels and share them across Xbox Live. In the single player mode you play as a bug named Maal who leads a team of bug warriors in protecting their kingdom from enemy insects. Other modes include stand alone missions, skirmish mode and several multiplayer modes.

Nintendo Wii Internet Channel Will No Longer Be Free

Nintendo has stated this before and they are giving everyone a heads up again. After June 30th, the price to download the Opera Internet Channel will rise to 500 Wii points. Better download it while it's still free.

GameTap on Macs

GameTap has been saying that they would support Macs by the end of summer, and they weren't lying. Intel Mac gamers will have access to the gaming service beginning June 28th. Yay!!! Wait.......I don't have an Intel Mac, mine is a PowerPC. Dammit!

UbiSoft Announces Official Release Calendar

Some good news for Playstation 3 owners (comes rarely..I know), but UbiSoft has announced their official release calendar for the 4th quarter, and the PS3 title, Haze is on there. And guess what!! Manhunt 2 Banned in the UK

It looks like Manhunt 2 can't be legally sold in the United Kingdom, because the BBFC has rejected it. According to the director of the BBFC:

"Rejecting a work is a very serious action and one which we do not take lightly. Where possible we try to consider cuts or, in the case of games, modifications which remove the material which contravenes the Board's published Guidelines. In the case of Manhunt 2 this has not been possible. Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing. There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game."

So basically the game is too violent and cuts or modifications just can't make it appropriate. In my opinion, this is just plain ridiculous. The game might be extremely violent, but that's why it is for adults. If an adult wants to but it, they should be able to make that decision. This is the first game to be banned in the UK since Carmageddon, which was in 1997.

The Manhunt Controversy Also Hit North America

The Center for Commercial-Free Childhood (CCFC) has demanded that the game be rated AO by the ESRB. This is due in part to the controls of the Wii-mote and how they are used in killing your foes. An Adults Only rating is not something that Take-Two wants, because this could drastically hurt their sales, considering that many stores will not carry AO rated games. Well this really sucks for Take-Two. I'll still buy it though. I loved the first one.

Resistance: Fall of Man Tournament

Resistance: Fall of Man Tournament

If you own a PS3, then you should own Resistance: Fall of Man, and you should be happy to hear this news. GGL has created an online tournament for the game that will be taking place from July 7th to August 12th of this year. There are some really cool prizes involved. Registration has already begun, so go to the site and get your name in the hat.

Microsoft Getting the Upper Hand in GTAIV

Just when we thought exclusivity was coming to an end in the console wars, Microsoft has shown us that the war is just beginning. They have payed Take-Two Interactive $50 Million for exclusive content for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV. They will be getting two "episodes" which will probably contain several new missions. The first content package will come out sometime around March of next year and the second will is scheduled for release later in the year.

Quake Wars Beta Opening Soon

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is currently in closed beta testing, but they are opening the doors to a public beta. They are opening it up for 60,000 players and will begin soon. It will only contain one map, but is a very large one. The first slot will be available to FilePlanet subscribers and then to those who have free accounts with FilePlanet, so you better register if you want a chance. Check out the official blog entry here.

Max Payne The Movie

There is an independant film in the works for the very popular and extremely awesome (my opinion) Max Payne series. There were rumors that the film was fake, but here is the website explaining everything.

This Weeks VC Releases

NES Open Tournament Golf

NES Open Tournament Golf (NES, 500 Wii points) is of course a golf based game that was originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System. First player gets to use Mario and second player gets Luigi. You also get to play on three different courses; US Course, Japan Course, and UK Course.

World Sports Competition

World Sports Competition (TurboGrafx-16, 600 Wii points) is a sports game based on the summer Olympics. The game features many events, such as archery, shooting, track and field, and swimming.

Bloody Wolf

Bloody Wolf (TurboGrafx-16, 600 Wii points) is a run and gun game in which you and a partner play as two commandos, Snake and Wolf, who take on an entire army. They have many weapons to accomplish their task of destroying the enemy base and defeating bosses in order to advance to the next level.

Another Win For Sony in DVD Wars

It looks like Blockbuster has decided to carry the Sony Blu-ray format over the HD-DVD format. The HD-DVD format will be carried in only 250 Blockbuster locations, but the Blu-ray disc will be available at all 1700 locations. This is because Blockbuster did a trial test of the two competing formats, and Blu-ray rentals turned out to be much higher then HD-DVD rentals. The online service will carry both and the company will consider adding the HD-DVD format to more stores depending on customer demand in the future.

Nintendo Short Cuts

Nintendo has recently asked filmmakers throughout the nation to demonstrate their skills by creating a Nintendo-themed video. Well, experts are working as we speak on selecting the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. If you want to place your own vote for fun, you can do that at their showcase website. Go there and watch the videos and pick your favorites.

Independent Games Festival Taking Submissions

The 10th annual Independent Games Festival is open for submissions. They are accepting for both the 'main' and 'student' categories. All independent developers can submit their own games into the competition in many formats and platforms, such as PC, web browser, console, or whatever else you want to create games on. The deadline to enter the Main Competition is Monday, October 1st, 2007. Check the website for more information.

Dead or Alive Released in the US

The Dead or Alive movie has been getting quite a lot of press lately, but not for the reasons you would think. The movie didn't do so well overseas and was thought to not even make it to the U.S. but lo and behold, the movie has arrived. It is now playing in select theaters nationwide. Look around to see if the movie is playing near you.

Tekken 5 Going Online in the U.S.

You can already download Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection on the PS Network but if you have it, then you know that it doesn't have online play. It was already confirmed that the online capabilities would be available in the Japan version off the game, but now it will be coming to the U.S. as well. The upgrade will include new online versus modes, online ranking, and in-match spectating. The upgrade will be coming later this year and if you already bought the game, you will only have to pay a small price for the new stuff.

Playstation 3 Firmware Update Today

Usually all of the updates for the PS3 come on Thursdays, but today brings a firmware update. The 1.81 Firware upgrade looks to be like it only does one thing. You have an option in XMB under settings allowing you to choose between RGB Full and Limited, but there seems to be a problem with it reverting back to Limited if it was previously set to Full. The update will fix this issue.

PSN Update Doesn't Bring Much

Is it me or do the Playstation Network updates get worse every week. This week you can download Go! Puzzle for $5.99 which includes three puzzle packs, a Go! Puzzle Starter Pack for free which give you three minutes to play of each puzzle, and a free trailer for the upcoming film "Hot Rod."

GameTap Expanding Library For Cheap People

Right now GameTap has 30 games available for their free play service, but they are upping that number to 40 by the end of this month. They also expect to have full Mac support by the end of summer.

Skin Care Software on the DS

Nintendo has been known to bring some weird stuff to their platforms, and it looks like they have been keeping that trend up. They are bringing a game, sort of, to the Nintendo DS that provides skin care tips based on their body temperature and "hormone balance." The game will also allow the user to mark important dates like prom nights, and weddings to get tips that are customized for the special day. The game has not been named yet and hits the stores of Japan on October 18th. No plans have been made for a North American release, but you never know.

Project Sylpheed Demo

This game scrolling shooter in which you play as Katana Faraway. Katana pilots a Delta Saber space fighter that comes equipped with a variety of weapons. As Katana, you must take on squadrons of enemies in order to defend the Earth against the evil ADAN forces. Does that sound fun to you? Then go pick up the demo from Xbox Live Marketplace right away.

Castlevania Film Gets New Director

I posted a story a while back about an upcoming Castlevania film that was supposed to be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, but he has stepped away from the position and has handed it down to Sylvain White. Anderson has dropped the project in favor of a remake of Death Race. Holy crap, that movie was awesome. Anyway, that sucks that he won't be doing the Castelvania movie because I was really excited about him doing it. I don't really know how I feel about Sylvain White doing it, considering that he directed "Stomp the Yard" and "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer." Anderson and White will be working together on a rewrite. Please be good, please be good.

You may remember a while back that there was a rumor about Time Crisis 4 coming for the Playstatiopn 3, because of a listing on EB Games online retail site, but the game was never officially confirmed. Cartoon Network Brings Games to Console

If you ever play Flash games on the internet, then I'm sure you have come across one of Cartoon Networks games before. A lot of them are pretty fun too. Virtual Console Update

Three more games this week.

Lode Runner

Lode Runner (NES, 500 Wii points) is an action puzzle game in which you control "Runner" who collects gold nuggets throughout the level while trying to avoid being capture by enemy robots.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis, 800 Wii points) is the side scroller we all came to love and cherish. Sonic is trying to save all of the animals who have been imprisoned by Dr. Robotnik as well as thwarting Robotniks evil plans.

XBL Gets Prince of Persia on Wednesday

If you were a fan of the Prince of Persia game that was originally for the Apple II, then you will be excited to hear that Xbox Live will be getting it this week. It looks way, way better though. Prince of Persia Classic features, enhanced character designs and visuals, new traps, enemies, and puzzles, achievements, and three different leaderboards. The three leaderboards consist of Normal Mode, Time Attack Mode, and Survival Mode. The game looks awesome.

Church of England Pissed at Sony

The Church of England is demanding an apology from Sony becuase they used the Manchester Cathedral as a setting in the game Resistance: Fall of Man for the Playstation 3. The Church leaders have several demands, which include an apology for using the Cathedral, a recall or rewrite of the game removing the Cathedral from it, a large donation the Cathedrals education department, and Sony's support for anti-gun groups in Manchester. Legal action is also being discussed. Sony says that "all permissions necessary" have been obtained. You know, honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. Pretty soon, everyone will be suing about the use of famous landmarks and that's one of the things that makes games so cool. When I played through that level, I saw it only as a cool building. I didn't create a relation between guns and religion.

Mac Users Get More Gaming Support

In some good news for Mac users, EA Games has announced several new title that will be available for Mac platforms. At the WWDC07 event, Need for Speed, Battlefield 2142, Command & Conquer, Harry Potter, Madden and Tiger Woods games have been confirmed. Sounds good.

Midway Games has added some bonus features to the game as well. It will have new sounds, effects, and video clips throughout the game as well re-mastered video and audio. Since Myst was a point and click adventure game, it fits perfectly into the Nintendo DS library, considering the touch screen and all. Midway is hoping to have it finished by November this year, but a release date has not yet been set.

First MMO For PS3

Sony Online Entertainment has announced the first MMO title, The Agency, for the Playstation 3. Not much is known about the game so far. US Gamers Get to Name the Next F.E.A.R.

Monolith has launched a new contest that will help them decide on a new name for the next title in the F.E.A.R. series. The "Name Your Fear" contest has already started and will end on June 22nd. They would use the name F.E.A.R. 2 except for the fact that VU Games has rights to the name. This is due in part to the fact that Monolith was bought by Warner Bros Interactive. The winner of the contest will win an all-expenses paid trip to Washington to meet the development team and will also have their likeness featured in the game. The game is expected to be released for the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.

If you have downloaded the Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo for the Playstation 3, you better keep playing it. I seems that players can earn some in-game currency that can be used in the full retail version, by playing the demo. The retail version is scheduled to be released this month in both Japan and North America. It would be nice to jump into the full version with a little currency already in hand.

Whether she like is or not. The Prison Life: Paris is a Flash based game where you play as Paris Hilton and you have to stamp license plates with a variety of different phrases. You have to be careful not to stamp her dog and don't get too many rejects or its game over for you. Have fun, because we all know Paris isn't.

Nintendo Wii Outselling PS3 In Japan

The Playstation isn't doing so well in Japan, at least when compared to the Nintendo Wii. For the month of May, the Wii has outsold the PS3 five to one. It looks like the new content for Resistance: Fall of Man won't be coming out this week, but instead will be coming out next week. Greg Phillips of Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed that the map pack will come out on June 7th. The reason for the delay is compatibility issues between the different servers around the world. I guess I'm fine with that.
