Xbox 360 120 GB Content

Microsoft has revealed what the new Xbox 360 Elite hard drive will contain upon purchase. Every hard drive will have the full version of the Xbox Live Arcade game Hexic HD, a variety of dashboard themes, and some gamer pics. It will also be preloaded with somewhere around 3 to 5 game demos, several Xbox Live Arcade demos, and HD game trailers. Sounds like you'll be spending some time deleting stuff when you bring your new Xbox 360 home.

F.E.A.R. Release Date Announced

Vivendi Games has announced that the very popular Xbox 360 and PC game F.E.A.R will be coming soon to the Playstation 3. April 24th to be exact. The first person shooter will also be getting some additional exclusive content on the PS3. PS3 owners will be getting an exclusive level and weapon along with the Instant Action and Arcade Style modes that are on the Xbox 360 version.

Eidos Will Wait For More PS3 Owners

Eidos has announced that they will wait for the PS3 to be in the hands of more owners before they release most of their major games. They will start to release their games in the second half of 2008. That kind of sucks, but I can understand their reasoning.

T-Mobile Offers Free Wi-Fi for PSP

If you own a PSP and would like to experience online gaming away from home, T-Mobile is providing 6 months of free Wi-Fi service. All you have to do is download the latest system software update and locate a T-Mobile Hotspot to use. You can choose the "Use Wireless HotSpot" option to get connected. The HotSpots are located at popular places like Starbucks, Borders, FedEx Kinkos, airports, etc. You can find the Hotspots on T-Mobile's website.

Grand Theft Auto IV

Rockstar games set up a page on their website with a timer on it counting down to 4:00 pm Mountain time (where I live) yesterday, for a trailer showing the upcoming game. You can still check out the trailer here. The game looks to be set in New York (Possibly Liberty City) and the character shown, who may or may not be the lead character, is what I think to be Russian who has some skeletons in the closet and has traveled to America to get away from his past. Of course, the way GTA works, things will probably just get worse.

Ninja Gaiden for Nintendo DS

Tecmo and Tomonobu Itagaki have unveiled the Nintendo DS will be getting Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. The game will be a 3d action game instead of a side scroller and is supposed to be controlled mainly with the touch screen.

Xbox 360 Elite Confirmed

As if you had any doubt by now. Microsoft has finally announced that the Xbox 360 Elite is real and will be released on April 29 for the price of $479.99. Director of Global Platform Marketing for Xbox has stated that they have done some pretty neat stuff because a lot of people have expressed their interest in the color black. With this bundle you will receive the Elite console with a 120 GB hard drive, a black Xbox 360 wireless controller, a black headset, an HDMI cable, and Xbox Live Silver Membership, and a one month subscription to Xbox Live Gold. Microsoft has stated that they have not released this to replace the Premium or the Core versions of the console. It will also come with a cable and software built into the hard drive that will allow you to tranfer your data from the old hard drive to the new one.

10 Reasons Why the PS3 Will Win

Brian Hastings, Chief Creative Officer at Insomniac Games has written a great piece on why he thinks the PS3 has what it takes to win the console war. Since he works for an independant development studio his article is 100% unbiased and he states that Sony has neither endorsed nor authorized what he has written. There are some great points in here. I will always probably own all of the systems, but this is a must read for anyone on the fence on picking up a PS3.

Get an Xbox for Your Guns

Mexican police are trying to clean up the streets and reduce the amount of drug related violence with a new program. They are giving away either an Xbox or cash to anyone who turns in a small gun. For people who turn in high caliber weapons, like machine guns, get a computer. The police have reported that on the first day, they recieved 17 guns and the army will destroy them. The program started on Tuesday, March 27 in the inner city barrio of Tepito. If the program is successful, they will extend the program to Iztapalapa, which is also crime ridden. The city has promised to protect the privacy of the people who turn in the guns as well.

Mario and Sonic Meet for the First Time

Sega and Nintendo has joined forces and announced that Mario and Sonic will appear together in a new game, title Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. The game will be developed for the Wii and the Nintendo DS. Players will compete in events in environments based on the official venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. It is expected to be released in the 2007 holiday season. I don't think this one will suck like most of the other games based on the Olympics of the past.

PSP 3.30 Firmware Update

The new update allows the playback of MPEG-4 AVA video in newly available resulutions of 720 x 480, 352 x 480, and 480 x 272. The firmware has also thrown in thumbnail support for video and RSS feeds. Last but not least, it also improves the PSone performance by including a menu option to increase disk reading speed.

New Forum For Gamer Girls

If you are a female gamer, there is now a place for you to gather and communicate with other female gamers. The Iris Network has been created as a "feminist-oriented community for gamers," but they have also stated that it isn't just for feminists, but for women of all walks of life. According to the site, this network was created because of a post on Kotaku that asked, "Why aren't there more female gaming bloggers?." You can read more about it here

Realtor Office in Second Life

Coldwell Banker, one of the biggest real estate companies in the US, has been reported to have opened an office in Second Life. They have stated that they don't really expect to make much money in the world of Second Life, but they are doing this mainly for publicity purposes. The final outcome is ultimately to buy and sell more homes in the real world, said Charlie Young, who is the vice president of marketing of Coldwell Banker. I wish my laptop was a little faster, then maybe I could use Second Life to make millions. I'll have a new desktop soon enough though, and then my reign will begin. HA HA HA HA!!!

Dragon Lair for Blu-ray

According to a press release from Digital Leisure, they will be releasing the first game ever released for the Blu-ray format, and of course that game is the hit from the 80's, Dragons Lair. It has been digitally restored and enhanced with a 5.1 surround sound mix. There will also be extras, such as interviews with the creators and a full length visual commentary of the game. They also plan to follow up this release with Space Ace and Dragons Lair II: Time Warp in Blu-ray as well. Dragons Lair will be available on April 9th.

Videogames and Music Now Closer Than Ever

It has been announced that EA Games has teamed up with Nettwerk One Music to create a new music label, which is called Artwerk. They will sign both established and new musicians to their label for publishing and recording deals and will search for new talent on the web. They will set up website where users can enter submissions of their music. They will distribute their music through iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic, and other online services as well as traditional music distribution. You can expect to hear a lot better music in your video games, not that it wasn't good already.

Time Crisis Returns on PS3

According to a listing on EB Games website, Time Crisis 4 with Guncon will be released for Playstation 3 on November 13, 2007. The site lists the game at the price of $89.99. I can't wait for this one.

Miss Video Game

Now the girls who play games get some attention. Miss Video Game is a competition that starts out with users voting on who they want to win, based on their looks and profile. The profile contains photos, live video if the user has it enabled, and a little about themselves. There are some pretty hot girls here too. I don't know if all of them can really play games though. This is where the next stage comes into play. The top 50 chosen from the first stage of the competition will have to compete against each other in an online tournament of games that have yet to be announced. Three gamers with the top scores will move on to the last round and two others will be chosen based on their overall participation in the contest and their gaming spirit. Then begins the final round. The girls will be flown to Montreal and will be given a day to practice the games they will be playing. Then they will compete in a 3 day gaming marathon of 15 games on 5 different platforms. The grand prize looks pretty nice. Visit the site and cast your vote.

Grand Theft Auto on the Wii

If you wish there was just a little more violence for the Wii, you may be in luck. Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo of America has recently been quoted as saying, "Nintendo has done all it can to persuade Take-Two Interactive Software to bring the Grand Theft Auto franchise to Nintendo console, and it is now up to the third-party publisher to decide whether Rockstar Games’ immensely popular series will appear on Wii.” I would really like to see how this game would work on the Wii.

Woman Beaten For Her Playstation 3

A woman who had just purchased a PS3 at her local Toys R Us in Swinden was thrown to the ground and repeatedly kicked in an attempt to steal her new game console accourding to an article on This is Wiltshire. It looks like there were two men involved, and they followed her home after the purchase. When she got home and was pulling the PS3 out of her backseat, the car pulled up beside her and one of the men attacked. She was able to keep a strong enough hold on the console until the attacker gave up though. Police took a look at the security tapes of the Toys R Us parking lot and saw a car leaving quickly, which they found shortly after the attack and arrested the two men inside. Some people in this world are just so disgusting. Well, I hope that lady really enjoys her new Playstation 3. Those guys should have to do roadside work for the jail they go to in order to buy her some games.

Has Console Exclusivity Reached An End

According to vice president of Epic, Mark Rein, it has. At least for his company. According to him, he thinks that the opportunity to do an exclusive game for the Playstation 3 has passed, mostly because he doesn't really see Sony making a really great deal for it. He says that it is mostly a timing thing and that by the time the game would be finished there would already be hundreds of great games for the system. I'm sure this is the same thing running through many game developers heads right now. It almost makes you worry about all the money you just spent on all of the different game systems.

Retro Games in Stop Motion

You may have seen this video before, but I thought I would post about it anyway. This video shows reenactments of some of the old video games you may remember as a kid, in stop motion. It is a great video. You can also check out the creators site here.

Mexican Governer Orders GRAW 2 Confiscated

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (GRAW2) is a game set in Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas. The games story involves an combat unit that battles mexican rebels in the year 2014, and the Governer of Chihuahua, Jose Reyes Baeza Terrazas doesn't like it. He claims that the game is an insult to the city of Juarez and the entire country. Authorities are gathering information about where the game is being sold and distributed in order to begin a seizure campaign.

New Gaming Community

Kongregate is calling themselves "the leading online hub for players and game developers to meet up, play games, and operate together as a community" and right after I read that sentence, I became a member. It is basically a place for users to submit Flash games so that other people can play them, but players and developers can communicate with each other and work together. Anyone who creates a Flash game can add it to the library, so if you are looking to get some recognition or to just let people enjoy your work, register for an account with Kongregate right away. Or just register to play the games, like I did.

Microsoft Says Fraud Not True

Xbox Live Director of Programming, Major Nelson, has stated that they have not found any evidence of fraud to Xbox Live members. On his blog, he has stated, "Despite some recent reports and speculation, I want to reassure all of our 6 million Xbox Live members that we have looked into the situation and found no evidence of any compromise of the security of the Xbox Live Network or Bungie.net. There have been a few isolated incidents where malicious users have been attempting to draw personal information from unsuspecting users and use it to gain access to their LIVE account. This is a good time to remind our members that they should never give out any of their personal information." Well, I guess you can relax a little now.

Final Wii Browser Delayed

The final Wii browser from Opera has been delayed, but only til next month. If you have used the current browser from Opera on your Wii, then you know why we need a better browser. It works ok, but many websites just don't work, or look, so great on it. Nintendo and Wii have stated that they are working to meet requests and features for the browser to enhance the Wii web experience.

Enjoy Online Media On Your TV

Apple TV already has someone competing directly with them. Orb Networks has released a PC to TV service that can be downloaded and used in conjuction with any of the next generation video game consoles, which of course are the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and the Playstation 3. Orb Mycasting needs to downloaded to your PC and then using your game console, you can connect to the web and log on to your Orb account, and enjoy any of the personal media of your computer on the TV. Download and try out Orb Mycasting.

Beta Test Stargate TCG

There is a new strategy card game in town, and you get to test it. Stargate TCG is almost completely ready, but Sony Online Entertainment is offering gamers the chance to get an early look at the online version of the game. Sign up for the beta test and help them complete the game to your standards. Go to the Stargate TCG website to learn more and download the game.

PS3 Update is Here

The update is here and I feel better already. I have signed up for the Folding@home program and it is running as I type this. The only thing I'm worried about is how long I should run the program, considering how hot the PS3 gets. I have put in quite a few hours at a time with it with no problems, but I probably won't let it run overnight. Help the world, download Folding@home. Don't forget, you can also download stuff while you play your games now too.

Italy Gets the PS3 early

If you live in Italy, you better start looking for a PS3 right away. The system was supposed to be released on Friday, but stores have already began selling them. It looks like Darty, a small retail chain, was the first to release the PS3's early and other companies began to follow, so as not to fall behind in sales. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has stated that they are deeply disappointed but the decision.

Resistance Updates

Insomniac has released an update to the game Resistance: Fall of Man. The update includes content additions for the multiplayer portion of the game. Team Conversion and Team Assualt have been implemented along with "Round Balancing". Round balancing will take players from one team and put them on another when there are too few players.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Video Game

Midway has officially announced that they will be releasing Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am exclusively for the Playstation 2. Midway has described the game as "an epic, action-adventure combat golf, cart racing game". It sounds pretty fun to me. It is due to be released sometime this fall.

Long Awaited Duke Nukem

Is still going to keep you waiting. The CEO of 3D Realms has admitted that the studio has screwed up with the development of the Duke Nukem Forever game that has been postponed for a decade now. In an interview with YouGamers, Scott Miller has been quoted saying "We fully admit we’ve screwed up the development of DNF, and it’s now an industry joke." and "The plan is definitely to bring DNF to multiple platforms. We have not announced which ones, yet" so hopefully we'll see the game some time soon. I have always been a big fan of the Duke Nukem series so I would love to finally see Duke Nukem Forever playing on my Playstation 3.

Fraud on the Xbox

It looks like Microsoft may have fraud occurring on its Xbox Live online service. They have announced on Tuesday that they will be investigation fraud that may involve hijacked accounts and compromised credit cards. If your account has been locked, you better take a look at your credit card activity and make sure you aren't a victim.

Final Fantasy Party Time

For the Final Fantasy series 20th anniversary, Japan will host the Square Enix Party 2007 on May 12th and 13th.

European PS3 Backwards Compatibility

If you live in Europe and have been worried about the backwards compatibility of the PS3 you are about to purchase, I don't think you really need to worry anymore. Sony has announced that under the new 1.6 firmware that will be released on March 22nd will include 1,782, of the 2,451 games for the PS2 to be backwards compatible. That still leaves about 800 games, but I'm sure the most popular games are included in that list and future firmware updates will include many more games. Some of the most popular anyway. It looks like the Final Fantasy games, God of War, and Grand Theft Auto series are missing. If you want to check if your games are compatible, check the full list.

Resident Evil for the Wii

Capcom has confirmed that they will be releasing Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii sometime this year which confirms their support for the Nintendo Wii game console. They also announced that there are more titles coming and that at least one will be announced in the next few weeks.

Dead Or Alive Movie Postponed Again

First the movie was delayed for a December release and now it has been delayed for a June 22nd release. This movie is based on the Dead or Alive video game series from Tecmo. The movies story is about four women who begin as rivals in a secret martial arts tournament but team up together to fight against a "Sinister Force" according the The Weinstein COmpany website. Honestly, and sadly, I don't think this movie is going to be very good.

You Don't Know Jack Goes Online

The popular trivia game for the PC has moved online. It will feature a full brand new episode every Monday on the the DisorDat website. You don't have to purchase anything either because they are providing it free of charge. Check out You Don't Know Jack every week and have a good start to the beginning of your work week.

Another PS3 Loss

In a press release from Microsoft, they have announced that Devil May Cry 4 will be coming to the Xbox 360 and PC. Devil May Cry was originally announced to be a Playstation 3 only title, but it has followed suit of other games such as Virtua Fighter 5. I think the main reason for this is that there just aren't enough people who own a PS3 to make a nice profit by being only on one console.

LineRider For Your Phone

If you have ever played LineRider then you will be excited to hear the big news. inXile is porting the LineRider game to the cell phone. Wired has also reported that it will also be ported over to Nintendo's Wii and DS sometime in the future. There will be a feature to share the tracks you make wirelessly to other phones too. It's expected to be released this September worldwide. It looks like the game now has an official website too. Check it out here.

New Black Xbox 360

Kotaku and Engadget have both confirmed the long time rumored Xbox 360. The new Xbox 360 Elite is expected to cost $479 and will include all-black peripherals and new packaging. This will be a limited edition and will include HDMI support and an HDMI cable along with a 120 GB hard drive. Since it is limited edition, it will only last for a while but no time frame has been revealed. Once it is gone, the Xbox Premium will receive the new features. Microsoft has not yet confirmed this information, so hopefully it isn't just an April Fools joke, but an editor at Game Informer, who printed the story in their upcoming magazine, has stated that they don't print fake news as a rule.

Gears of War Movie

Variety has reported that New Line has won the rights to the extremely popular Xbox 360 game, Gears of War. Stuart Beattie will be writing and Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will be producing the movie.

Excitebike on Virtual Console

Some new games for you to check out on the Wii's virtual console. The biggest of course is the NES's Excitebike. This was a really fun game where you race against several other dirt bikes with obstacles along the track, such as track hazards and various sizes of jumps. Extremely fun if you have never played it. They also released Splatterhouse, which is a game where a college student must kill monsters that have infested a mansion, with a variety of weapons such as shotguns and cleavers. And last but not least is Beyond Oasis. This is an RPG where you play as Prince Ali who finds a golden armulet that gives him special abilities to summon spirits and he has to find a silver armulet that was created for destruction in order to keep it from being used for evil. I haven't played much of this game, but I have played some and find it to be pretty fun. The gameplay is a bit like Secret of Evermore and not so much of a turn based RPG like Final Fantasy.

Crackdown Top Selling Game in February

According to the NPD group, Crackdown was the top selling console video game for the month of February which was followed by Wii Play from Nintendo. Xbox is doing very well, because out the top 10 selling games last month were Xbox 360 games.

RTD Transportation to Ban Video Game Ads

Requests from parents of teens to ban violent video game ads on buses and trains are now being considered by the Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver. The complaints began last fall when ads for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories were shown on the sides of RTD vehicles because the game glorifies gang life, homicide of police officers, and violence against women. Critics say that the games spawn violence. I think they have nothing better to do with their time.

Details About the PS3 1.60 Firmware Update

In a press release today from Sony Japan, details about the next firmware update have been announced. The update for Japan will be on March 22 and the US update should be soon afterwards. In the update, there will be the Folding@home service that I recently wrote about, a full size onscreen keyboard, some new features for the internet browser, and background downloading. Some of the new internet browser features will include being able to set the standard font size and a new "pin-point zoom" feature to zoom in on web pages. I really like the last feature though, because I hate it when I'm downloading a demo or video or something and I can't do anything else with the system until it's done. This is going to be a pretty good update.

Become a Game Designer

Not officialy but if you play "The Restaurant Game" for Mac OSX you will be credited as a game designer. The Restaurant Game is a research project at the MIT Media Lab that combines the gameplay exeriences of thousands of players to create a new game. IGN's Top 25 PS2 Games of All Time

Out of the thousands of titles that the Playstation 3 has to offer IGN was forced to choose 25 of the best. They made their picks based on how good the game was in general, what kind of impact it had on the gaming industry, and how fun it is to play according to todays standards. Of course this is a debatable list, but it has some great games on there. Instead of crying about what games they missed or placed in the wrong order, just use it as a general guideline of some of the games that you should own.

Here are the top 10 according to their list:

10. Burnout 3: Takedown
9. Twisted Metal: Black
8. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
7. Guitar Hero
6. ICO
5. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
4. Shadow of the Colossus
3. Final Fantasy X
2. Grand Theft Auto III
1. God of War

Check out the complete list here

20 GB PS3 Discontinued at Best Buy

On an article published on Gizmodo, they are reporting that according to printouts from 3 seperate Best Buys, the 20 gigabyte model of the Playstation 3 has been discontinued from the store inventory. Sony also admitted that retailers prefer the 60gb version over the 20gb so the decision on Best Buys part isn't really that surprising. This decision is not confirmed by Best Buy as of yet though.

Nintendo DS and Wii Outselling Competitors

According to data released by the NPD group, the Nintendo Wii was Americas best selling console for the month of February totaling more than 335,000 units sold. The Nintendo DS was the only game system to outsell the Wii, selling 485,000 units. I remember before the Wii came out that nobody thought it could compete with the other next-gen consoles, but I guess everyone who said they didn't want one has gone back on their word, because the numbers tell a different story.

Video Games Replacing Carrots?

A study at the University of Rochester found that playing action video games can sharpen the players vision. This has been found to work especially well in people suffering from amblyopia, or lazy eye. The study showed that game players did better on tests of visual acuity that asses the ability to see objects accurately in a cluttered space than people who do not play video games. The study revealed that action video game play changes the way our brains process visual information. Only certain games work in this way though. First person action games are beneficial and puzzle games have no effect.

Three Versions of Halo 3

If you plan on buying Halo 3, which I'm sure you are, there will be three different versions for you to pick from. A Standard, Limited, and a Legendary edition are planned.

Advergaming

I remember the first time I really noticed blatant advertising in a video game. This game was Tony Hawks Pro Skater for the original Playstation. If I remember correctly it was a billboard on one of the levels that was promoting Mountain Dew. I know that advertising has been in games at some level for a long time before this, but this is the one that stuck in my head let me know that much more was coming. If you play any new games these days, you will notice that advertising is everywhere. Here is a real in-depth article about games and advertising if you want to learn more about it.

Crayola and the DS

It was announced by Crave Entertainment that they have partnered with Crayola to create a game that will use Crayola crayons to your Nintendo DS. They have not released a release date or even a name for the game as of yet though. The game is supposed to take place in various parts of the world and players will hunt for treasure with a map and crayons. Sounds like it may be fun.

Super Mario Sound Bytes

If you like to collect video game toys, Think Geek has some cool Mario Bros. toys for your collection. There are three different versions of little figurines on blocks that make sounds when you push on their heads. They all play the coin sound, jump, and the sound when an item comes out of a block. They also have one sound of their own. The Fire Mario plays the fireball, Normal Mario plays a power up sound, and Luigi plays the extra life sound. They are all 3" tall. The only thing that sucks though is that you can't order the exact one you want. The toy delivered to you will be randomly chosen because it is hard to tell which toy is in the package.

Internet Browsing on the DS In America

Opera has released their internet browsing software for the DS in Europe in October of last year for 39.99 Euro, and DS owners have been anxiously waiting for it in North America. Well, some DS owners anyway. I have heard a lot of bad things about this browser, like site compatibility and speed issues. I would like to try it out anyway. It will be released in North America on June 4th, 2007 but a retail price has not yet been confirmed by Nintendo.

PS3 Computing Network

According to a press release from Sony, they have stated that they are teaming with Stanford University to create a distributed computing network of Playstation 3 consoles. This network will be used to study the causes of a variety of diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. This works by having home users sign up for the program. You can do this sometime at the end of this month when the next PS3 update comes through. A new Folding@home icon should appear on your Network menu or crossbar and you can click this icon to sign up. This has been used on home computers since 2000 and the PS3's cell process is 10 times faster than a standard mainstream chip in a PC, so this is a great revolution for the researchers as well as the people who will be helped due to this research in the future.

Nintendo Kicking Sonys Butt

In terms of portable systems that is. According to Bloomberg.com Nintendo has shipped 14.4 millions DS units in Japan by the end of 2006 and Sony has shipped only 5 million PSP units. They were both released in Japan in December 2004 so it is an accurate number of which system is the most popular there.

Wikigamia

That's not what it's really called though. Wikipedia's founder, Jimmy Wales has launched a new open source games magazine called gaming.wikia. His idea is built around the idea of creating a community of passionate gamers to provide the content for the "magazine", much like wikipedia. The new community will allow people to blog, rate content, and freely contribute news and information. This gaming site has been created along with tunes.wikia, cars.wikia, and health.wikia and all can be accessed with one log-in and password. They all have a similar look and feel.

Midway Infringed on Copyright

William L. Crawford is a writer who wrote an original story about government trained forces that had psychic powers. Sounds extremely familiar if you have ever played Psi-Ops right? It turns out that not only is the story line similar, but so are the character backgrounds and clothing. Well, it turns out that Mr. Crawford wrote his story, called Psi-Ops, and registered it with the US Copyright Office in 1998 and Midway's game was filed in 2004. Crawford says that he attended E3 in 2001 and showed his concept to several potential partners, and that this is probably where Midway got their idea. He is seeking at least 1.5 million USD in damages.

Another Music Based Game

This time it is from the almost always controversial, Rockstar. Beaterator is a music mixer game for the PSP that will be created in collaboration with Hip Hop star Timbaland. The game will contain a collection of stock sounds, effects, a keyboard and a loop crafter. There will also be actual game functions in this one, which will include various rhythym challenges and more.

Two More Games For The WCG Competition

If you are interested in the World Cyber Games Competition, there are now two more reasons to get involved. Tony Hawk's Project 8 for the Xbox 360 and Carom3d for the PC have been added to their roster. Learn more here.

DDR Now Coming to A Gym Near You

Konami has announced that they have partnered with Nexgym to put Dance Dance Revolution into all current and future Nexgym locations. This is the latest in partnerships with Konami's DDR video game. Other places have included DDR into their fitness programs including West Virginia's public school system and 24 Hour Fitness. Maybe I will finally go to the gym. Anyone who know me, knows that I'm just talking. I'm too lazy.

Viva Pinata Demo

This game was originally released on November 9, 2006, but the demo is finally available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. I haven't actually played it, but it looks really fun and have heard a lot of good things about it. The objective of the game is to take a plot of land and grow plants, trees, and living pinatas. You can add water to different plants and attract various types of pinatas and then outfit them with accessories and show them off to other Viva Pinata players. It might not sound that exciting but I'm betting that you will be surprised.

God of War 3 Confirmed

At the God of War 2 launch party, God of War 3 was unofficially announced according to a story on 1up.com. Director, Cory Barlog confirmed that the future of God of War will incorporate Sixaxis and vibration, which basically confirms that there will be another installation of God of War. He also stated that there will also be a PSP version of God of War that will further flesh out the story.

Games For Children of Divorced Parents

There is a new game that claims to help children deal with divorce and enhance communication through an interactive story. Earthquake in Zipland has been created in order to provide the first step in helping a young child to cope with the effects that divorce can bring. This game is a research based computer game that takes children through an adventure that indirectly takes the child through challenging tasks that deal with anger, guilt, loyalty conflicts, and other emotional effects that come with divorce. It is also recommended for therapists and school counselors, according to the developers.

MGS 3 Not Going Offline After All?

That seems to be the case in Europe anyway. Konami has told gamers in Europe that despite closing the servers in North America, the European and Australian servers will stay online. Konami has even released a dedicated league system.

Ahhh, the Good Ol' Days

If you played the NES when you were young you most likely remember Tecmo Bowl. I didn't own it, but my Grandma would let my brother and I rent it every weekend from Safeway. I used to be a Tecmo Bowl master, although I doubt I would be very good at it today. Good luck for me. It was released for the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console yesterday. If you would like to relive the olden days, you can pick it up for $5 in Wii points right now.

New Maps for Lost Planet

Capcom has released some new maps for the popular shooter, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. There are 2 maps in this pack that you can purchase for $5 in Microsoft points on Xbox Live Marketplace. There are five more maps expected for release in the next few months.

Find Games Safe For Your Kids

There is a new website that provides news and reviews on video games that is geared strictly for parents trying to find educational and safe games for their children. Check out Kid Confidence. I looked at a few reviews and find it kind of cheesy but it looks like a good resource for parents. Also, I love my violence in the games I play, but hey, to each their own.

God of War II

In case you didn't already know, God of War II will be released tomorrow. I loved the first one and can't wait to get my hands on this. Pick it up!

Play Guitar on Your DS

Ubisoft is publishing a new game for the Nintendo DS that will simulate playing a guitar. The game is Jam Sessions. There will be a performance mode that will include popular songs to play along with. This mode will have notes and lyrics on the screen but will not have the song playing in the background while you play. Then there is a Free Play mode that allows the player to just play whatever they want. You use the d-pad to control the notes and the stylus on the touch screen to strum your guitar. Check out the video below for a demonstration.

One Game a Day

If you are familiar at all with those "one deal a day" websites such as Woot!, than you know about the great deals that sometimes come from these sites. Sometimes. Well, now there is "one deal a day" video game website called Game Du Jour, offering what looks like to me, casual games. I think you can probably find a lot of the games that they will post on here for free somewhere, maybe a different variation, but none the less the same. I could be wrong. Maybe they will put out some really cool games. I guess you will just have to check it every day to find out.

How To Get a Job In Video Game Industry

Of course you know that video games are the future and since games are such a booming industry, there will always be top paying careers in the field. Now where should you go to school? Well, Electronic Gaming Monthly rated the game design programs at UAT, The Art Institute, Full Sail, Academy of Interactive Entertainment, and another one I couldn't find. This was from about 2003, but I think it still holds true. I know it is old information, but I thought I would share for those of you who are interested.

Gamer Camp

A new nationwide program or "video game playing camp" called Weekend Gamerz is set to roll out nationwide. It will be coming to three dozen college and university locations this June and will be open for kids aged 13 to 17. The cost will be $99. The program is meant to get kids to socialize with others and to make friends. They will be playing many popular games such as Warcraft 3 and Half Life 2, and participants can also bring their own games or play online games like Halo and World of Warcraft. The program will also offer outdoor games such as Capture the Flag and Ultimate Frisbee. Register for the program here.

More About Playstation 3 Home

Sony has opened up a Home Beta website explaining (very little) about Playstation's Home. Keep checking the site to find out when you can sign up for the trial beta program.

New Mario For The Wii

Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that Super Mario Galaxy will come out for the Wii before the end of the year. He demonstrated some new footage from the game but not really much more than that, but it is some good news. Everybody loves Mario.

Video Games Invading Everyones Household

It has been reported by MediaPost that household video game use has reached 41.1% in the US. Since the first quarter of 2004, household video game use has expanded by 18.5 percent. In the fourth quarter of 2006, 45.7 million homes contained a video game console. This is a good time to start thinking about what field you want to start a career in.

New "Home" For PS3 Users

Phil Harrison, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios has released some very interesting information about a new online social networking and reward system for the Playstation 3. If you are familiar at all with the online site, Second Life, than you will get a feeling for what Home will be like. Home will offer gamers a community in which you will get an apartment that you will be able to customize. Users will be able to create a character for themselves in intricate detail and will be able to approach other characters online and communicate using the controller, a USB keyboard, or by using voice chat. There will be stuff such as pool, bowling, and other games that players can participate together in and you can invite the people you meet back to your apartment to watch HD video downloads on a virtual tv. It was also stated that completing more and more of your PS3 games will award players with 3D trophies that will be displayed in their apartments. I think this is a huge step in online gaming. Maybe something like this will even bring non-gamers into the world of videogames. Look for in in the Fall this year.

Games Played With The Mind

A new company called Emotiv has created a device that can read thoughts and emotions by using a headset that can tap into electrical waves from the brain. The device can sense levels of excitement and can tell when someone is smiling, winking, or even if they are angry. The device needs to be trained in the players thought processes and electrical reactions that come from the brain as the user imagines doing physical actions such as pushing, lifting and turning objects in order for it to work with games. The device is planned to go on sale some time next year.

EA Games Breaking Into Music

It has just recently been released that EA has made a video game music website where users can download songs from the soundtracks of their favorite games, but now something else has come to light. Steve Schnur, worldwide executive of music and marketing at EA, has stated that for the people wondering if EA is going to just sit around and watch other video game companies prove that "music-based games like Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution become roaring successes, there's news coming." EA is a huge company that can do anything these days, and this could be a great thing for fans of the music game genre.

Malls Making Local Stars

Irving Mall in Texas is just one of the latest stops of many in the "Playstation 2 SingStar Mobile Tour". A performance stage is set up, using a transforming van, for people to sing right inside the mall using SingStar Pop and SingStar Rocks! for Playstation 2 to judge. There are three kiosks so that you can compete with friends or other singers. A SingStar challenge is held each day, and the person who gets the top score will win a copy of SingStar Rocks. At Irving Mall, this will go on from Friday, March 9th to Sunday, March 11th. The challenges will take place from 3pm to 9pm on Friday, 1pm to 9pm on Saturday, and 12pm to 6pm on Sunday. Assualt mode requires that the player attack the enemy's base and taking out the defense before the can destroy the HQ. There will also be a spectator mode so that people can view matches through the eyes of one of the players or as a free roaming camera. There should also be some new maps coming in May. I can't wait to play them.

EA to Sell Music

Electronic Arts has been known to feature many new up and coming bands in many of their videogames, and now EA has opened up digital music store on its website. This website, EA Trax, will contain downloads for original, licensed music that can be found on their videogames. This is actually a really cool idea, because songs that are on videogames are often not found on the radio or online. Even better, EA has also teamed up with Apple to sell the tracks on iTunes.

Playstation Controllers to Rumble Again

Sony's Playstation 3 controller might feature the previously called "last generation" rumbling function in their future controllers. This was originally removed after a legal fight between Sony and Immersion. Immersion owns the rights to the force feedback technology but the legal battle is now over and the function will be licensed to Playstation again. Sony paid Immersion $150.3 million dollars ending the patent infringement suit and licensed the technology for $22.5 million. I am really happy about this. I loved the vibration function. The Wii remotes have both the rumbling and motion sensing technology, and I think that is the best way to go. You shouldn't be taking away a great technology and replace it with another one, but instead add a great function to an another great function.

Scarface: The World is Yours

Sierra has announced that Scarface: The World is Yours will be coming to the Nintendo Wii this summer. The game has sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide on other gaming platforms and now Wii owners get the chance to play. Wii owners get new functionality though. This version of Scarface will feature a new control scheme which will utilize the Wii remotes motion sensor and nunchuk controller. I own Scarface for the PS2 and found it to be fun, so I would really like to see how it plays on the Wii.

Non Profit Video Game Publisher?

There is a new game publisher in town and they are working for free it seems. OneBigGame has been recently founded "in order to raise funds for a wide variety of children's charities around the world." Sounds good to me. They have stated that they will initially operate purely as a non-profit organization and not as a charity itself, but doesn't that leave the possibility that they may move away from being non-profit in the future? Well, I guess if you really need to support your family.......

The Full Moon Show

That is the title of the new podcast show that Insomniac Games will be offering every first and third Thursdays a month. Playstation 3 Still Not In Stock

I call BS. Sony has claimed that the PS3 still isn't fully in stock and that demand for this the system is still high. It's funny though, because I was searching everywhere for just some Wiimotes and the game Wii Play, which took all day, and I saw Playstation 3 consoles at almost all of the stores that I went to. I went to Best Buy, Circuit City, Super Target, Kmart, and two different Walmarts and found several PS3's at all of them. Well, whatever makes you feel better Sony.

Help Create a New MMO

Dave Perry and Acclaim has joined forces to create a new MMO. The cool thing about it though, is that you can help in the creation process. They stated on the Acclaim website that whoever shines the most during the development of the game will be given the opportunity to direct a fully funded, MMO that will be guaranteed to be published by Acclaim. That person will also recieve royalties from the game and Dave Perry will be their Executive Producer. Sign up to be a team member right away.

Over 1,000 Backward Compatible Games In Europe

If you live in Europe, I'm sure you have heard that the PS3 will be stripped of the hardware emulation provided by the Emotion Engine that provides full backwards compatibility for PS2 games. I'm sorry, but Sony has stated that they are aiming to have 1,000 titles will be compatible and more updates are promised to come through firmware updates. I think it's pretty messed up that Europe has to buy a PS3 with parts of the system missing that the rest of the world gets.

Silent Hill Sequel In the Works

If you were a fan of the first Silent Hill, then you are in for a surprise. Actress, Laurie Holden, who played officer Cybil, in the first one, has confirmed that another Silent Hill movies is definitely in the works. It might not be directed by Christophe Gans though, who directed the first one. I really haven't like many game to movie adaptations but I honestly liked the Silent Hill movie, so I can't wait for the next one. I have to admit that I am a huge Silent Hill fanboy though. I played the first one probably about 16 times. Sadly, I'm not kidding either.

If you are an Xbox live gold subscriber you can download the demo for Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 for free. It is only a single player demo though. You will have to wait for another week if aren't a gold subscriber.

Playstation 3 Firmware Update

If you are wondering what the new firmware update for the PS3 does, shut up and I'll tell you. It doesn't do much really. Two things. It will allow you to change the size of the image of the person you are chatting with during video chat to match the screen size and it allows you to use a USB camera that is compatible with the USB video class for video chat.

13 New Wii Games This Year From Data Design

Due to the success of the Wii, Data Design has signed on to release 13 games for them just for this year. Data Design is a publisher of value-priced games based in the UK. It has been reported that they will come out with six of them in the second quarter of this year. They haven't released any information yet if these games will be released in North America though. Most of them probably will not be recognizable since they are mostly released in Europe but they sound fun. There are titles like Ninjabread Man and Elviz: Rock N Roll Adventures. Keep an eye out.

MKII for PS3

Sony will be releasing Mortal Kombat II for the Playstation 3 this month. Station.com shows the game marked as a March release with a price of $4.99. I think this was the best game in the series, so if I was you, which I'm not, I would definitely be checking it out.
