Nintendo has gone and set a world record. A pretty uninteresting one, really. The record was for having the most Nintendo DS owners playing the system in one place. They gathered a total of 381 players in Parramata, Westfield in Australia while an official Guiness World Book adjudicator supervised. Wow.
Do you think you have what it takes to review video games for a living? Test your skills at Firing Squad. They are having a contest to see who can write the best game review, for any PC game of your choosing, under 500 words. Some cool prizes come with victory. Check it out.
It turns out that the NES Zapper still has it's uses. Two men used one to rob a gas station in Covington, Kentucky back in May and made off with a grand total of $100. Arthur Swain displayed the gun to the clerk of the store who then gave the men the money. They were caught though, and sentenced to 10 years in prison. My question is, why the hell would the cashier be afraid of the orange and grey Nintendo gun?
There is a new firmware update available on your PSP. Version 3.72 add more support for Playstation Network titles. The firmware also has support for the Remote Start feature of the Playstation 3, which will coming in the form a firmware update for the PS3 soon.

If you purchased Guitar Hero III and you were dissapointed to find that the game did not support offline co-op quickplay, turn that frown upside down. A patch will be released today over Xbox Live which will give you that funcionality that you so desire. If you own the game on the Nintendo Wii or Playstation 3, however, you are S.O.L. That's as of right now anyway, since nothing has been mentioned about a patch for those versions yet.
Dorito's recently had a contest where people could submit their own games. The contestant who have entered have now been dwindled down to 5 finalists and now you can vote for whose game you think is the best. Go to the Doritos website and play the actual games, then pick your favorite. Whoever wins will have their game turned into a full game available later on Xbox Live Arcade. Cool beans.
Nintendo has tried to come up with some games that stay true to the Halloween spirit, which I guess do. I think just about any game could have been chosen though. They made one good choice though, which is Castlevania II Simon's Quest. That game is just awesome. I played that one so many times as a kid. The other two games offered this week are Samurai-Ghost and Magician Lord. I haven't played neither of those other games, but they both look fun. I really like the side-scrollers from those days. Check out the full press release below.
WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ANNOUNCED FOR WII SHOP CHANNEL
Oct. 29, 2007
This Halloween, you needn't leave your own living room to encounter spooky spirits and creepy creatures from mysterious otherworlds. The Wii Shop Channel is celebrating the year's most frightfully fun holiday by offering a mix of eerie games that'll keep players' spines tingling. Mash with monsters in a classic Castlevania sequel, tangle with supernatural samurai or battle as a powerful magician-you're bound to discover cool tricks and visual treats no matter which titles you choose. Happy Hallo-Wii!
Today Nintendo adds three new classic games to the popular Wii video game system's Wii Shop Channel. The games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

Castlevania II Simon's Quest (NES, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone - Mild Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): In this one-player adventure, you'll take on the role of Simon Belmont once again and duel to the death with Count Dracula. Grab your legendary whip, Vampire Killer, and roam freely through Transylvania on a quest to find the count's missing body parts-these are the key to breaking an evil curse. This quest won't be easy, though, for you must battle hideous fiends who stalk the land. In addition to the intense action and tight control the Castlevania series is known for, this sequel also introduced several unique game-play elements into the fold. Build experience the longer you play, buy weapons and items from merchants, or talk with villagers to get clues (some of which are false). Watch as day turns to night and then back again. Take a deep breath, steady your nerves, and help Simon end his curse and defeat the count once and for all.

SAMURAI-GHOST (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older - Animated Blood and Violence, 600 Wii Points): This action platformer features a samurai ghost from the depths of the underworld. In a past war, Kagekiyo managed to defeat the shogun Yoritomo and his clan. However, their evil spirits were not completely destroyed, and now, in the world known as Dark Side, they seek the time of their rebirth. In order to shatter those ambitions, Kagekiyo must make his way across seven zones and head for "The Heart of the Darkside" where Yoritomo lies in wait. Use spirit weapons to power up your sword, or other items, such as candles to recover health, and defeat the endless hordes of enemies. Each zone is not only protected by a boss but also includes demons as well as real samurai from 12th-century Japan. Get ready for some intense one-on-one combat action.

MAGICIAN LORD (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen - Blood and Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1990 and regarded as one of the NEOGEO's earliest signature games, this side-scrolling platformer mixes action with the mystical world of fantasy. A magician named Elta, last descendant of the famed Magician Lord, takes on an epic adventure to save the world from the evil Gul-Agieze. Elta must battle through eight stages, collecting the eight tomes of power that are key to defeating Gul-Agieze and his evil plans. By obtaining orbs in one of three colors (elements) that appear during the game, Elta's offensive powers and jumping abilities can be strengthened. The effect varies considerably depending on the combination of elements, though, and Elta can transform into six different forms: Waterman, Dragon Warrior, Shinobi, Samurai, Raijin or Poseidon. Can you help Elta to become the new Magician Lord?
If for some reason you don't already own a PS2 or maybe you want a new one, you can pick up the SingStar Playstation 2 packs for $149.99. The pack includes a limited edition white PS2 system, the SingStar Pop game, and two microphones.
Crysis, the shooter from Electronic Arts that many gamers have been waiting for is finally available for a test run on your PC. Get the Crysis demo now and save the Earth.
If you've read the reviews for Manhunt 2, you probably remember them saying that the blurriness of the executions sort of ruined them. Well, take a look for yourself. Here is an execution taken from the Nintendo Wii version of the game.
If you are waiting for the Xbox 360 Pro Holiday Bundles to come out, you can head on over to the store right now. The bundles have been spotted in various stores across the nation, notable Best Buy and Costco. No official announcement from Microsoft again, but it's out there and waiting to be snatched up.
You are excited for Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii, right? The boss fights in the Mario games have always been tons of fun, so here's a video showing you how much fun you are about to have again.
First of all, there is a new PS2 classic available for you. Spyro the Dragon is available for $5.99 and takes up 341mb. Not bad.
For add-ons this week, you also get some the new add-on for Ninja Gaiden Sigma, "Rachel Master," which features five survival battles in which you must control, obviously, Rachel. That one costs $2.99. Then there is a free Halloween skin for the Piyotama. This will change the games appearance to a Halloween theme.
How about some videos? There is a Bionic Commando and Time Crisis 4 game trailer as well as the movie trailers, The Water Horse, P.S. I Love You, AC/DC Live At Donington, and Reign Over Me.
There are also a few Eye of Judgement wallpapers available and the new EyeCreate software for the new Playstation Eye camera if you own it. No demos this week, but not a bad update all in all.
You know you can't wait for "Rock Band" to be released, so here's some good news for everybody. The game was scheduled for release on November 23, but Harmonix and MTV have decided to move it up by three days. This is likely due to the original release date falling on the dreaded "Black Friday." You know...that day where you have to wait in line for 8 hours just to get into the building, then walk around trying to find one thing, realizing that they are already out of it, and then standing in a two hour line for a soda and a DVD. Yeah, so you won't have to deal with that now. They haven't stated why the game has been moved up, but I sure am glad they did. You can pick it up on November 20th for $169.99.
Want a peek at what you can expect from the upcoming sequel to Manhunt? No? Forget you then.
Remember when the Manchester Cathedral leaders were all pissed off at Sony for placing their church in "Resistance: Fall of Man?" Well they are sorta forgiving them finally. The church leaders had called for the game to be pulled from the BAFTA Video Game Awards, which didn't happen, but the game didn't win, so they are happy now, with Reverend Rogers Govender stating "I think some important lessons have been learnt. So we do forgive Sony for what they have done, even though they still believe they have done nothing wrong." On a side note, the Reverend has also stated that visits the Manchester Church have skyrocketed and has received lots of publicity since the release of the game. I'm guessing that's really why they are forgiving Sony. Maybe thanks are in order. Anyway, how else would they get people into church without portraying aliens being killed in it? I have no idea.
The "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" Shivering Isles downloadable content is finally coming to the Playstation 3. Bethesda has announced that they are finally bringing the expansion to PS3 owners in the form of a stand alone disc. It will ship to stores on November 20th, will not contain the Fighters Stronghold content, and will cost $30. Kind of a rip off if you ask me.
Looking for some quick fun on Xbox Live Arcade? Go download EXIT or Battlestar Galactica.

In EXIT, you play as Mr. ESC, who is an escape artist who's job is to save people from dangerous situations. You must clear the stages in a limited amount of time, while using your puzzle solving skills along the way. Download this one for 800 Microsoft points.

In Battlestar Galactica, you can either defend the Galactica or play as the Cylons who are out to destroy the human race. In this game you can pilot several ships with up to eight players online or you can play alone in a single player campaign. Pick this one up for 800 Microsoft points as well.
It has been reported that some local video game stores, namely GameCrazy, has been given "Super Mario Galaxy" for the Wii to demo. The only thing special about this though, is that the demo is actually the full game. So go check your local game retailer and see if they have it yet. You can try to beat the whole game before it even comes out.
Some good news for Sony. According to Home Media Magazine, over the course of this year, sales figures for Blu-ray and HD-DVD show that Sony's Blu-ray disc has outsold it's competitor 2 to 1. U.S. sales of the Blu-ray discs have totaled about 2.6 million units while HD-DVD discs have sold about 1.4 million. The war isn't over yet though. Let's see how next year goes.
For many people out there who purchased Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction yesterday, there is a glitch that has prevented them from even playing the game. The game needs to install some files to your PS3 hard drive and for some people, it might just tell you that your hard drive is full and installation cannot complete.
Well according to James Stevenson of Insomniac, "With specific amounts of free space on your drive, you may see a screen that tells you have insufficient space to create game data even though there is plenty of free space on your drive." I don't know what the specific amount is, but Stevenson has revealed a workaround for the time being. All you have to do is add or remove about 500mb of data to your hard drive and the problem will disappear. Easy enough.
If you can't wait for Clive Barker's Jericho to be released later this week on Friday, you can play it on GameTap right now. If you are already a subscriber, then there's no reason to wait and the same goes if you aren't because you can start a one month membership for only .99 cents. That's a damn good price. I was excited for this game, but after reading a review about it on IGN, I'm not so sure anymore. I thought the demo was fun enough though.
The upcoming shooter for the PS3, "Haze," already looks pretty damn cool, but it just got cooler. Korn has written an exclusive track specifically for the game. To coincide with the launch of the game, the song will also hit radio and tv next month. Jonathan Davis had this to say about it:
"Gaming for me is a religion and Haze is the shit!" said Jonathan Davis, Korn's frontman. "I had to come up with a track that can hit up that kind of rush I get from the game and I think we really rocked it!!"
Korn has always been a great band, and with a statement like that, I'm hoping that both the game and exclusive track are awesome.
If you are looking for some racing action, hit up the Xbox Live Marketplace and download the new demo for Need For Speed: Pro Street. The demo is available in all regions, so no matter where you live, you can go nuts on the track.
That is a question that will be easier to answer after today. Activision will be releasing a 5 song demo for their upcoming game, "Guitar Hero III." You can play the demo with the already existing Guitar Hero 360 controller and will feature these songs:
Go to Xbox Live Marketplace and see if it's there.
Some more news about the Warhawk patch that is coming. The v1.1 patch is being tested right now and will address a ton of issues. Have a look:
Now that's quite a patch! If you want to learn more about it, visit the Playstation Blog.
Nintendo has added more classics for you to enjoy. Lunar Pool, is basically a billiards game. If there aren't enough of these games already, here is another one for you. Then you got Ninja JaJaMaru-kun. This game actually looks like it would be fun and it has never been released outside of Japan, so here's your chance to play it. Last of all, you can download Golden Axe III. This one you probably already know a little bit about since the first two installments in the series are already on the Virtual Console. This games have always been fairly fun to me. I don't know if I'd buy it unless I had some extra cash to blow though. Check out the official Nintendo press release below.
WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL
October 22, 2007
Autumn leaves aren't the only reason your October is about to get a lot more colorful. The latest additions to the Wii Shop Channel deliver a brisk, eye-pleasing mix of classic gameplay for fall. Dive into this pile of vibrant titles for a timeless dose of fun and fantasy.
Three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
Lunar Pool (NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Lunar Pool takes the historical game of billiards and reinvents it with a unique and futuristic flair. The rules are simple: All you need to do is use your cue stick to hit the white cue ball, causing it to hit the other numbered balls and make them go into the pockets. You can enjoy nearly unlimited game play with 30 tables, two different ball arrangements, and the ability to change the degree of friction on the table. You can play against a computer or another human player, so try challenging someone once you've got the hang of the game.
Ninja JaJaMaru-kun (NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Take on the role of a ninja called JaJaMaru and rescue the captured Princess Sakura from the evil Namazu Dayuu in this action-packed game, previously unreleased outside of Japan. JaJaMaru must use his throwing stars to defeat the monsters lurking in each of Dayuu's many hideouts. JaJaMaru has to be careful though, as each monster has its own unique weapon and method of attacking. The only way for him to advance is to break the floor bricks above him and move up and down between the levels of each round, defeating monsters as he goes. To help him, broken bricks sometimes reveal items that JaJaMaru can use to his advantage, possibly leading to the ultimate power-up: a ride on Gamapakun, the giant frog. Throw in some bonus stages and you've got a game with a style all its own.
Golden Axe III (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The once-peaceful kingdom so familiar to fans of the original Golden Axe is under threat once again. The Prince of Darkness has stolen the invaluable Golden Axe, taken over the kingdom and rendered its warriors harmless with an evil curse. One warrior breaks free from the curse and must defeat the prince and regain the Golden Axe to save the kingdom. In this one- or two-player action game, play as a giant, a panther or a sword-wielding human and fight your way to victory once again.
Take a look at the MGS4: Guns of the Patriots english demo.
The Warhawk team is busy fixing issues and making updates, because just like every other game out there, there are always problems that can be fixed. They have been working on two separate patches for the game, so they sound pretty busy. The first update will address issues with stats and connectivity. You can expect this patch towards the end of October sometime. The second update has not been discussed yet, so you'll have to wait to see what that one brings at a later point in time.

Do you wanna win a unique "Heroes" decorated Xbox 360? Of course you do. Even if you don't watch Heroes, you'll probably still want to try to win a free 360. Well Amazon is holding an awesome contest to try to win some of these consoles, and in total, they will be giving away 90 of them until November 15th. Visit the Xbox 360 contest page on Amazon to win.
Microsoft has finally decided to confirm the release of the Xbox 360 Arcade Console, despite the fact that they have been spotted on store shelves for the past week. This version of the Xbox 360 includes a wireless controller, 256mb memory card, and will cost $279.99 US. Still no work on what games are included though.

The official Hitman movie website is now live and it contains all sorts of goodies. There's information about the movie, video and trailers, downloadable icons, screensavers, wallpapers, and a bunch of other stuff. Check it out.
Sony has finally provided some details on the release of the 40GB version of the Playstation 3 here in the US. Just as everyone already knows, the system won't have any memory-card readers, has only two USB 2.0 ports, will have built-in IEEE 802.11 b/g wireless networking capability, will not have software-based backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 and will cost $399. The only real news then is that it will come packaged with the movie, Spider Man 3 and that you can pick it up on November 2nd. Oh yeah, and the 80GB has been given a $100 price drop, which you should see immediately.
Some more demos this week. You can download the demos, Folklore "Playstation Underground" Demo, and the Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights Demo for free.
If you are looking for game demos, you can pick up the Uncharted Tech Dive Video, Burnout Paradise Steel Wheels Trailer, Turok Dino Luring Trailer, and the Devil May Cry 4 TGS Short Trailer.
Now on to the movie and Blu-Ray disc (BD) trailers. You have your choices from the Rails & Ties Trailer, Incubus - Alive at Red Rocks BD Trailer, and the Underworld BD Trailer.
Last of all, there are two new Eye of Judgement wallpapers, and if you haven't picked up Calling All Cars yet, it has been reduced to $4.99 until next Thursday, the 25th.
Do you want to play the Guitar Hero III demo disc, without having to buy Tony Hawk Proving Ground. Go here and follow the directions. You can burn it right to a regular cd and it should be able to play without having to hack your 360 or anything. Here are the songs included on the demo:
In a world where videogames used to much more exclusive, another title has found it's way to the other side. This time it's an Xbox game though. Capcom has announced that Lost Planet will be coming to PS3 early next year. The game will feature a 16-player online mode, all of the bonus characters from the PC version, and extra downloadable content. It may be a little old by now, but at least people who only have a PS3 get a chance to play a really cool game.
Capcom has announced that Street Fighter IV is currently in development. If you've gone to Capcom's community website, you should have noticed a countdown, which was for this big announcement. Other than the updated versions of Street Fighter III, there hasn't been an original Street Fighter since 1997, so this is some pretty awesome news. Check out the new teaser trailer below.

Greg Easley, a founder of Super-Ego Games, has announced that the Playstation 3 will be getting an exclusive comedy/adventure game. This game will come in episodes and should be available sometime this Winter. The story is set in a dysfunctional office in a company called BiggCo. As the player, your duties basically consist of trying to make it through the day, while trying to deal with impossible co-workers of course. They have given credits to people from Late Night with Conan O'Brien, My Name Is Earl, SNL, South Park, Ugly Betty, Flight of the Conchords, and many more. With name drops like those, I bet this is going to be pretty damn funny. I can't wait.
Good news for Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 players. You will be getting a new add-on pack next month. The pack will contain five new campaign missions and nine new maps for online play. The new campaign missions will continue the story too. Seven of the online maps are actually updated versions of maps from Ghost Recon titles, but two of the maps will be completely new. The pack will also contain 125 more acheivement points that you can collect.
There is now a Flash version of Portal (from Valves "Orange Box") if you want to play it. Watch the video below of the real version, and then play the Flash version. I know it doesn't look as great, but it sure is a whole lot of fun. I only made it to level 8 before getting stuck.
The recent release of the much cheaper, and closer to affordable, 40 GB Playstation 3 has boosted the sales of the console greatly in the UK. Still not at the same level of sales as the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii, but sales have risen up to 178%. That's a nice jump.
Some interesting information has leaked about the upcoming 40GB Playstation 3 from the popular US retailer, Target. In their system, the 40GB console is listed to have an "in-stock date" of October 28th. Just in time for the holidays, right? This PS3 comes with HDMI and Wi-fi, two USB 2.0 ports, no memory card ports, and no PS2 backwards compatibility, so purchase wisely.
As you know, the Nintendo Wii has been dominating sales charts all around the world, but the weird thing is, that all of those Wii owners are regularly playing the system. About 67% of Wii console owners have admitted to not playing the system recently. I have to admit myself, that I'm actually one of those people. I played Wii Sports quite a bit at first and then Super Paper Mario, but nothing else has really caught my attention. I might buy Metroid, but I really wanted the Nintendo Wii for interesting, unique titles that I could enjoy with everyone. If I want a first person shooter, I'll play my PS3.
If you have a Nintendo Wii, then you know that those Wiimotes kill your batteries really damn quick. Maybe you've even considered buying the Nyko Wiimote Charger, becuase I think about it everytime I'm walking through Best Buy. Well, it looks like the price has been dropped to $20 on Amazon. The unit includes batteries and will hole two Wiimotes at a time. $20 is a great price, so I'm going to order two chargers right away.
Three more oldies for you to play on your next-gen machine. This week you have your choices from Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos, Metal Marines, and Gate of Thunder. Ninja Gaiden is always fun, so that wouldn't be a bad choice. I remember renting that game from Safeway as a little kid on several occasions. Metal Marines is a real-time strategy so you might like it if you are into those types of games, which I'm not, so I won't be getting that one. Gate of Thunder is a sci-fi side scrolling shooter. I haven't played this game, but it actually looks like a lot of fun. Check out the full press release below.
This week marks the first appearance of a CD-ROM game for the TurboGrafx16 on Virtual Console. Take control of the Hunting Dog ship and battle deadly Obbellon fighters in the classic horizontal sci-fi shooter, Gate of Thunder. If shooting's not your thing, you can go out and save the world from evil demons or a power-hungry general in this week's other offerings that bolster the Wii Shop Channel's catalog of action-adventure and real-time strategy games.
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (NES, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Mild Violence, 500 Wii Points): In Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos, a new villain, Ashtar, is revealed. Take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa and rescue Irene Lew, a former CIA agent, from Ashtar. Destroy the Sword of Chaos, a weapon of great power forged from the bone of a demon. Use techniques such as the Fire Wheel or the Windmill Throwing Star and attack while holding on to walls and ladders. Use the most innovative technique of all - the ability to create Shadow Clones, orange shadow versions of Ryu that will constantly follow him, repeating previous actions (moving or attacking) in a delayed cycle. Once again defeat henchmen, creatures and bosses with new fighting techniques and even more weapons as you progress through multiple stages on your way to destroying Ashtar, Jaquio and the Realm of Chaos.
Metal Marines (Super NES, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Set in the near future, most of Earth's land has been disintegrated in the chaos of the Anti-matter War. This real-time strategy game portrays the Colonies' Allied Force - the Metal Marines - in their epic struggle against General Zorgeuf and the Imperial Federation, who are bent on world domination. Commanding the Metal Marines across a series of battles, the player must strategically allocate resources, ready supplies, manage funds and move troops in an effort to outwit and outmove the opponent. The real-time battle system rewards split-second decisions and adaptability in the struggle for military superiority. Unlike most turn-based strategy games, Metal Marines engrosses the player in a fast-paced and frantic battle in which both sides advance simultaneously. A constant eye must be kept on enemy movements to maintain a formidable defense and not miss the perfect chance to strike. Strategic foresight and quick judgment hold the key to victory.
Gate of Thunder (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The legendary sci-fi shooter is back! Gate of Thunder is a horizontal side-scrolling shooter that places you in control of special undercover agent Hawk, whose mission is to stop the deadly army of Obbellon fighters. Jump into the action as Hawk gets aboard his ship, the Hunting Dog, and heads out toward the enemy. Blast through stages while effectively using all three of the weapons at your disposal and receiving support from ally Wild Cat ships. Switch through equippable power-up options on the fly to change the direction of your attack. You'll have to blast in front of and behind you to survive all seven stages. Hard-core shooting-game fans looking for a challenge can select HARD or DEVIL mode to experience even more intense action!
Microsoft has not yet made an announcement on their upcoming Xbox 360 Arcade models, but they are already showing up all over the place. The system costs $279.99 and includes five Xbox Live Arcade games and a 256 MB memory card. It does not include a hard drive though, so keep that in mind when Grand Theft Auto IV comes out, which will most likely require one. I suppose you can just get one then though.
You can expect to pick two more games on XBL tomorrow. Each for 800 Microsoft points, you can download "Every Extend Extra Extreme" and "Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe". Every Extend Extra Extreme is a unique shooter which includes five games modes and even lets you add your own music to the gameplay. Speedball 2 has been completely remastered for Xbox Live Arcade and includes enhanced graphics and 3D visuals. Both of them look fun to me.

Today is "Blog Action Day," and bloggers around the world are, well, blogging about it. This is your chance to help save the Earth and spread the word. I know you just want to stay inside and play games, but save the Earth now so that your children can play games too. That's if you ever come out of your parents basement and meet someone that will have your children. Visit the official Blog Action Day website to learn more about what you can do.
I'm really excited about "Super Mario Galaxy" so here is another video. This is the US trailer. Enjoy it. Now!
Oblivion fans should be pleased to to know that today, the newest downloadable content update is available. Only for Xbox 360 and PC though. The latest update, and last by the way, is "Fighter's Stronghold" and is free. The new content gives players access to Battlehorn Castle, which you will have to earn access to of course.
In other Oblivion news, Bethesda has also announced that they are working on a way to bring Shivering Isles available for the PS3. If you don't already own Oblivion on the PS3 though, you can pick up the Gome of the Year edition later this year, which will contain both the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine content.
Hopefully everything comes together for one of the games that everyone is looking forward to, "Assassins Creed." In a recent interview with Patrice Desilets, he stated that "Right now we have a big challenge on the 360 to make it fit on a DVD, to put five languages, to put all the data on eight gigs." There are tons of challenges for the developers having to develop the game on the different platforms, but they are getting help from both Sony and Microsoft to get the same quality on both systems.
Since the release of the teaser trailer of Hitman, we've all been kind of anticipating its release - we were cautiously optimistic. Since the last trailer, we went from cautiously optimistic to "Hell yeah, this is gonna be good!" And now, we must back track and say, "What the hell is this?!" Unfortunately, Fox has taken over Xavier Gens' explicit cut of the film and completely watered it down to a PG-13 rating... Good news is, if you liked Live Free or Die Trying, you should enjoy this version of Hitman just as much, for Fox has hired that same watery director, Nicholas De Toth to do his magic (or lack there of) to this feature film. This news was from multiple sources; however, nothing can be said 100% sure... Let's hope it's not true, or if it is, let's hope Fox changes their minds and let the first cut stay...
As we get closer and closer to the holidays, the system updates just keep getting better and better. As of right now, you can download the really cool game, Everyday Shooter for $9.99. You can also pick up the demos for Conan, NHL 2K8, and...wait for it..RATCHET AND CLANK!! Yup, the Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction demo is finally here. Go play it.
For trailers this week, you have your choices from the game trailers, Folklore "Launch" Trailer, Uncharted BTS 2 video, and Fallout "Teaser" Trailer. There are also the movie trailers for Walk Hard, The Assassination of Jesse Jam, and Spiderwick Chronicles.
Last of all, there are a few wallpapers available. There are two new wallpapers for Ratchet and Clank and one new wallpaper for Everday Shooter.
Nintendo has confirmed that their upcoming game, "Super Smash Bros. Brawl," will be delayed until early next year. It was originally scheduled for release this year in December, but you can expect to pick it up on February 10th now. Oh well, there are pleny of other good games to pick up in that time.
If you want something to play on your PC, you can now download a single player demo of Timeshift as well as the single player demo of Call of Duty 4. Have fun!
Activision has announced that they have created a new online community that is dedicated to "Guitar Hero" fans. Previously, you could download demos for your Nintendo DS by finding a DS download station and pulling down content to your handheld. I've actually never seen one, so I don't even know if they exist near me. Anyway Nintendo has made a smart decision and has announced that soon, gamers will be able to download demos from the their Wii. Why did it even take so long in the first place?
It has been announced that Wii Fit, Shigeru Miyamoto's latest creation, will be hitting store shelves on December 1st in Japan. It will cost 8800 yen, which is approximately $75 USD. Not too bad, I guess.
The very popular, in Japan anyway, Monster Hunter franchise is coming to the Nintendo Wii. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has announced that Capcom's "Monster Hunter 3" will be hitting the Wii. I really don't know why this game hasn't taken off here in the States, because it really is an awesome game.
If you didn't notice you're Nintendo Wii glowing, take a look and you'll see. You'll see that I'm not just making stuff up. Did you look? I was right, wasn't I? Well that glow means that you have an update waiting for you. Nintendo has released Firmware 3.1, which will give you USB keyboard support. That's it, really. So that glow on your Wii is wonderful, but the update isn't very exciting at all. Maybe next time.
Sony Japan has finally announced the release details for the rumble-equipped, Dual Shock 3 controller. The controller that everyone has been waiting for will be released in Japan on November 11 of this year. The price is slightly higher than the standard SIXAXIS controller as well. You can expect to see the controller near you early next year.
MTV has given little information to the question on many gamers' minds, "Will my Guitar Hero controllers work with Rock Band?" Well according to their website, a Frequently Asked Questions page states "Harmonix has an open platform philosophy and their games will be compatible with third-party controllers that conform to the various platform controller standards." Not a definitive answer but for now, it works for me.
Two more demos are now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Project Gotham Racing 4, which you can already purchase in stores, is available for the people who haven't purchased it yet. This demo offers the ability to pick from two bikes and three cars and also give you the exclusive Arcade challenges that aren't even available in the full release. You can also download a demo for F.E.A.R. Files, which is a set of expansions that are closely related to the original title.
Toyota has apparently made a new commercial using the World of Warcraft game. It's pretty funny. Reminds me a lot of the Leeroy Jenkins fiasco.
You may have heard about the rumored Xbox 360 holiday bundles a lot recently, and for good reason. Those rumors have finally been confirmed to be true. Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 Elite consoles will be available for their regular prices, but packaged with 2 free games. These games are Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. You can expect these bundles to be available towards the end of October.
Toyota has announced that they will be releasing a free game on the Xbox 360. The game will be promoting the Toyota Yaris and will be in the style of Wipeout and will feature the Yaris shooting robots in some sort of futuristic world. You can expect to see the game sometime tomorrow on XBL.
Two new demos are now available on Xbox Live this week. Conan is available for download with about 15 minutes of gameplay and The Simpsons Game let's you play as Bart or Homer in a battle against Lard Lad...you know, the big donut guy? This game looks like it's going to be fun. Funner than any other Simpsons game in the past anyway.
Nintendo has updated their Virtual Console lineup as they do every Monday. This week brings all Neo Geo games. You have your choices from the popular fighting titles Fatal Fury, World Heroes, and Art of Fighting. All of them are good fighting games, so do some research and choose one of them, or choose all.
WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL
Oct. 8, 2007
This week, Nintendo adds another delicious category to its smorgasbord of classic titles. NEOGEO games will now be appearing in the Wii Shop Channel for download. NEOGEO becomes the sixth platform represented in the Wii Shop Channel, and it adds additional depth and breadth to the best selection of classic games available.
Hard-core gamers will especially appreciate the vibrant, arcade-quality graphics and the ability to finally play games they might have missed during the NEOGEO heyday. The first NEOGEO offering includes three fighting games that are a mix of familiar franchises and cult classics. Dive in and check out the deep game play, diverse characters and special moves and combos.
The three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
FATAL FURY (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, rated T for Teen - Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1991 and one of the longest-running series in the fighting-game genre, this title introduced players to Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard and Joe Higashi. Select one of the three and visit many locations as your chosen fighter engages in numerous street fights around the fictional city of South Town. If you're good enough, you'll eventually take on Billy Kane and then his boss, the notorious crime lord Geese Howard. Use each fighter's own finishing maneuver and battle in two different planes on the screen, one in the foreground and the other farther away in the background. The game also features a two-player mode that is well known for its unique setup, which allows fighters to both fight and help each other. Do you have what it takes to win the King of Fighters tournament?
WORLD HEROES (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, rated T for Teen - Animated Blood, Violence, 900 Wii Points): A fighting game released in 1992 featuring eight characters, including Hanzo, Janne and Rasputin, modeled on historical figures from throughout the ages. The fighters compete against each other to become the world's toughest combatant, with players using a setup consisting of only three buttons (one each for punching, kicking and throwing). Adding to this unique system is the fact that the strength of your offensive blow depends on how long the button is pressed and held. Along with regular match styles, Death Match mode is also available and features mines, electrified ropes and other dangerous objects in the battle arena that can change conditions during the fight or damage players. Enjoy the wide range of combat forms as you take on history's best!
ART OF FIGHTING (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, rated T for Teen - Animated Blood, Violence, 900 Wii Points): This fighting game, released in 1992, began the story of the Sakazaki family and Robert Garcia, further developed in two later sequels. Yuri Sakazaki has been abducted by Mr. Big to punish her father, Takuma, and her brother, Ryo. To rescue her, Ryo and Robert must take on numerous enemies around South Town, eventually reaching the mysterious Mr. Karate. The passion of the game's creators is evident in the unique game-play elements introduced. These include an energy gauge that is depleted every time a fighter uses a special maneuver, Desperation Attacks that are usable only when a fighter's health is low and camera zooming that adjusts on the fly as fighters move around the stage. All these features ensure that players use strategy and tactics, rather than simply mash buttons. Adding to the mix are little touches such as characters showing cuts when they are injured and voice-over samples during cut scenes. Can you perfect the art of fighting and save Yuri?

There was recently a contest in which gamers could submit their own Playstation 3 wallpapers, and a winner has been chosen. Birdman3.0 designed a very cool wallpaper, as you can see above, and everyone else who voted seems to think so as well. Click the photo above for the full size download.
The very popular MMO, Everquest seems to be the inspiration for a movie, of the same name of course. The movie will be produced by Avi Arad and will be scripted by Michael Gordon, who wrote the story for 300. The movie is scheduled to be released somewhere around 2009 or 2010.
As a thank you from the developers of God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP, they have released a download (right click and "save as" or just listen in your browser) containing an MP3 of some music from the game. The piece is titled "Battle of Attica" Check out what Gerard K. Marino, the composer had to say about the track.
"Battle off Attica" is the first cue I wrote for Chains of Olympus. It called for a revisit to the classic God of War combat music aesthetic, and was the perfect vehicle to transport my headspace back into the darkness. I first viewed some concept art of the scenes, characters, and creatures that Kratos would be filleting to this music, and the set to work on writing a hooky, rhythmic motif for the strings, settling on the Dat Deedah Dump, Dat Dump! That opens the piece. Soaring over this ostinato is a wild, ethnic wind solo from our persian instrumentalist, Nejad. That crazy-sounding instrument is actually the plastic handle of a feather duster! Of course, I couldn't kick off a new GOW score without some reference to the two principal themes from the series. The main theme followed by the Kratos Theme, providing an ostinado for another ripping duster solo from Nejad. Remember that this track is designed to compel the listener to bring total destruction to all things. As such, it impairs your ability to drive a car anywhere near the speed limit, or to operate machinery without willfully dismembering bystanders. Please enjoy this music responsibly.
Activision has announced 17 new tracks for their upcoming Guitar Hero III game and you can go ahead and move your eyes a little lower on the screen so you can see them.
Some fun stuff for you today. If you're looking for some games, you can pick up Go! Sports Ski is only $2.99 and it utilizes the SIXAXIS controller. I don't know if that's good or bad. You can also pick up some demos in the form of Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War and The Simpsons.
Want some videos? You can watch an NBA 08 "Key Control Play Calling" tutorial, an Eye of Judgement tutorial video, and game trailers for Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and Haze. You can also watch movie trailers for Tekkonkinkreet and Surf's Up.
If you want to play some multiplayer Tetris in HD, go get yourself Tetris Splash. Many multiplayer modes, leaderboards, and achievements, all for only 800 Microsoft points.
If you are a World of Warcraft player, then you should know that there is a festival going on in the game. Beerfest! Celebrate the month of Oktoberfest. The event lasts from October 2-16. Watch the video below and learn more.
Bethesda Softworks is celebrating 10 years of Fallout, by giving gamers the chance to design one of the perks for Fallout 3. Basically, your job is to think of a Perk, what you want your character to be able to do, in the spirit of Fallout. If you win, you have the chance to win an awesome PC Grand Prize or a Console Grand Prize. Get the details on the Fallout site.
Take a look at what it will be like to play "Hammmer Throw" on the upcoming Mario & Sonic Olympics for the Wii. Looks like there will finally be a fun Olympic game...maybe.
KOEI has announced Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War will be available later this week in the form of a demo on the PS3 and the Xbox 360. This is a squad-based game with action and RPG gameplay elements. Play the demo this week and pick up the full version in November.
There are two new colors for you Xbox 360 wireless controllers. Pink and Blue. They are the same price as the regular controllers, so you can pick them up for $49.99.
Sony has released a program that you can install on your PC that will let you create your own PSP themes. The whole shebang too! Customize your themes with your own backgrounds and icons, and you're all set. Download PSP Theme Creation Utility here.
All I can say is, holy crap, I can't wait to buy this!
If you own a Nintendo Wii, you know how easy it can be to lose a remote to gravity while you're playing. This is the reason Nintendo has decided to release Wiimote Jackets, which are covers that go around the remote to protect whatever may be hit if the remote happens to go flying. The jackets will be free, up to 4 per person, and will start shipping on October 15, 2007. Go to their online form to get your own. All Nintendo Wii's will also come packages with these from now on.
Publishing company, Future US, has made a deal with SCEA to produce OPM for the United States, a deal that I think many Americans will be happy about. Although, I do get most of my news online these days. I'm also happy getting all of my demos over the Playstation Network, and for all other news, I read EGM. Hmmm...maybe it won't be such a good idea after all. There will be a Holiday Issue this November so I guess we'll just have to see.
Another song pack has been released for Guitar Hero II, which contains three new songs. Pick it up for 500 Microsoft points.
Sony's popular multiplayer shooter will be coming to stores next week for $39.99. It won't be coming with a headset though. So if you wanted to get the game for a cheaper price, but wanted the actual Blu-ray disc, you can get it for the same price as the downloadable version. Makes sense, if you already have a headset and don't need another.
This week's Virtual Console update is a little different. First of all, you only get two games this week. Nintendo has made up for this though. The two games that are being released are import titles, which have never been available here before on their original platforms. The first is "Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels". This game is a lot of fun. You may have played this on an emulator or the computer at some point in time, but now you can play the actual game. The second game this week is "Sin & Punishment." This is a classic shooter and looks like it could be a lot of fun. Check out the full press release below.
WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO NEW CLASSIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL
Oct. 1, 2007
This is a special week on the Wii Shop Channel. Frankly, it's a gamer's dream come true: Nintendo is launching the new Import genre with the release of two games that previously have never been available in the Western Hemisphere on their original platforms. The first will be hugely popular with Mario fans, who will love reliving the style of his classic games as they encounter new skills, new levels and new dangers. Nintendo 64 enthusiasts also get a masterpiece of the shooter genre and perhaps the best game never released outside of Japan. Welcome to Import Week for the Wii Shop Channel!
The two new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (NES, 1 player, rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2, this game has previously made only brief cameo appearances in the Western Hemisphere. Now available on the Virtual Console in all of its original splendor, Mario fans will appreciate the familiar look and feel of the game, while finding that its updated game play creates an entirely new challenge. No longer content just to wear different-colored overalls, Mario and Luigi also possess different skill sets: Mario can stop quicker, while Luigi can jump higher. In addition to the classic enemies already known to fans worldwide, there are also Poison Mushrooms, backward Warp Zones, and the occasional wind gust (which can help or hinder your progress) to take into account. And if that's somehow not enough, expert players can go looking for the game's secret worlds. So get ready to put your Mario skills to the ultimate test, and save the Princess again. Just don't be surprised if she's in another castle.
Sin & Punishment (Nintendo 64, 1-2 players, rated T for Teen ñ Blood, Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, 1,200 Wii Points): Created by the legendary development studio Treasure, this is a game that hard-core gamers and fans of Japanese imports recognize as one of the finest Nintendo 64 titles to have never previously reached North American shores. Its unique combination of English voice-overs with Japanese subtitles (preserved in this version) has only added to the enthusiasm for its eventual release here. Experience the frenetic pace of a classic shooter, while choosing from a variety of options and a number of different skill levels until you are ready to take on the full-blown challenge of Turbo Hard mode. Not to be outdone by the action, however, the intriguing story line gives the game its soul and draws you even further into the mix. Set in the near future, on an overpopulated Earth starved for resources, players uncover the intriguing mystery of two teenagers (Saki and Airan) and their battle against the Ruffians as they advance through level after level of nonstop action. Take a deep breath, gather your energy and prepare to see why this game is so highly praised.
Everyone has been wondering how much Rock Band is really going to cost, and now you can find out just how much you need to set aside to purchase it. MTV's Stephen Totilo has announced that the game, packaged along with a guitar, microphone, and a drum kit will cost $169.99. That's actually not bad at all. The game is scheduled for release on November 23, so that's plenty of time to save.
With the Chains of Olympus Demo shipping soon, you should be able to experience the game on your PSP soon, but if you didn't sign up to receive the demo, just watch the video below to see what the game will be like
The first TG-16 CD games have been announced for the virtual console, which should be coming soon. The first is Gate of Thunder which is a side-scrolling shooter that was originally released in 1992. The second game announced is Super Air Zonk which is the sequel to Air Zonk, which you can already purchase on Virtual Console. You can expect to get both of these games for 800 Wii points.
