Beatles Version of Guitar Hero?

The Beatles

Martin Bandier, top executive of ATV Music Publishing LLC, has expressed his desires to create a Beatles version of Guitar Hero. ATV is one of the largest music publishing companies in the world and actually owns the copyrights to John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s music, so the idea isn’t far off. According to Bandier, “It’s something we have talked about and something I’d like to pursue.” Could the Beatles make a killing in the Guitar Hero franchise? Maybe we’ll see.

Guitar Hero on the Commodore 64

What would it have been like to play a game as awesome as Guitar Hero on the Commodore 64 way back in the day? You can now find out. Toni Westbrook has created a working C64 version of the game called Shredz64 that actually works with a standard guitar controller. It can’t play the songs that come standard with the game, but instead it plays SID files. The video below explains much more about the project as well as a demo of the Overworld Theme form The Legend of Zelda.

Rock Band Alternative for Kids

Disney Games Logo

If you’re a parent and you feel like Rock Band or Guitar Hero is just a little too “grown up” for your kids, lighten up, because they’re gonna rebel like crazy in their teens if you don’t… or you can wait til this holiday season when Disney releases Ultimate Band.

Ultimate Band is a rhythm-based music game that’s being designed right now for the Nintendo Wii and the DS. Disney has already stated that they are working with some of the biggest bands in the music industry. I’m pretty sure that doesn’t mean Killswitch Engage and Ozzy Ozbourne though.

One of the cool features about this though, is that the DS version will allow players to create their own songs with the touchscreen and stylus. The Wii version will also play to the strengths of the system, incorporating the Wii-mote functionality but details for that haven’t been announced yet. So keep an eye out towards the end of the year.
