This Week’s Rock Band Content

Smashing Pumpkins

Ready for some new Rock Band tracks? You probably already know what the tracks are, since they were leaked a couple weeks ago, but here’s a refresher.

Smashing Pumpkins – “Siva”
Rush – “Working Man”
Coheed and Cambria – “Ten Speed (of God’s Blood and Burial)

You’ll be able to pick them up for the usual $1.99 each or $5.49 for the pack. One question I have to ask though, is how the hell were these songs lumped together? Were they pulled out of a hat?

Harmonix Offering Stand-Alone Rock Band Peripherals Finally

Drums and Guitars

Harmonix and MTV games have made an announcement that is sure to make every Rock Band owner happy. They’ve announced that individual Rock Band instruments will finally be available in the U.S. starting on February 12th. The drum kit will be priced at $79.99. A wireless Fender Stratocaster guitar controller will cost $59.99, but for some stupid reason, won’t be made available until April 1st. The instrument that everyone really wants, comes last. Oh well, at least it’s coming.

Rock Band Pack for This Week

The downloadable content for Rock Band this week is the Oasis Music Pack. All three songs in the pack are from Oasis. The songs are “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” “Live Forever,” and “Wonderwall.” You can get each song for 160 Microsoft points or $1.99 each on the PS3 later this week, as well as picking up the whole pack for 440 Microsoft points.

200 Rock Band Songs Coming

According to an article on IGN, there are already a couple hundred songs in the future of Rock Band, just for 2008. I’m kind of hoping for more newer stuff, but the old stuff is fun too. So if you bought every song that will come out for Rock Band, how much would you have spent by the end of the year? About $400. Now that’s an expensive video game.

Become a Rock Band Drumming Pro

If you own Rock Band, you may have found that the drums can be a little difficult once you play the harder songs or on higher difficulties. If you really want to become the Rock Band drumming professional you’ve always dreamed of becoming, you should check out this Rock Band Drumming Guide from Wired. Tons of great tips that I’ll be putting to use right away.

Mad Catz to Make Rock Band Peripherals

Mad Catz Logo

Mad Catz, the 3rd party peripheral manufacturers, have announced that they have reached a licensing agreement for three years in which Mad Catz have the right to produce and distribute game peripherals for Rock Band. This includes the production of both wired and wireless bass guitars, a drum set, and a wired microphone. Since there aren’t Rock Band compatible guitars that you can purchase separately for the game right now, this is some good news.

Playstation Network Update

GTP5 Japanese Trailer Screenshot

The first update since the week before Christmas, and I have to say that I’m a little disappointed. There is only one demo, and one video, but there is a whole bunch of songs for both Rock Band and Guitar Hero. I guess the update is OK though. Don’t forget that five of those Rock Band tracks are only $0.99, which is half off. Here is what’s available this week.
