How To Get More Girls To Play Games

Girl Playing PSP

Sony has figured out the way to get more girls to play games; get them to make ’em. It’s really a great idea. Sony Online Entertainment has created the SOE G.I.R.L. scholarship, which obviously by the name is focusing on the female gender, but it’s being offered to males too. The G.I.R.L. or Gamers In Real Life scholarship has partnered with The Art Institutes in order to encourage women to create and develop games that they would actually like.

Through surveys and research, Sony has found that there really are many girl gamers out there and many would actually like to pursue a career in the field, except one of the things holding them back is the fact that this field is predominantly male. I think this is a great idea. Just look how Jade Raymond contributed to the world of video games. Assassins Creed is a huge hit.

If you are interested in this $10,000 scholarship, you must be attending any Art Institute school. You will be required to submit an in-game design, concept art, and two essays by March 31st, 2008. Better get crackin’. More details here.
